Down by three points, El Reno High School’s girls basketball team unleashed a fury of 3-pointers in the second period and rode the wave to a 37-33 win over Guymon in a key District 5A-2 battle.

The four-point victory extended El Reno’s win streak to three and its season record to 12-8. More importantly, it locked up third place in the 5A-2 standings at 9-3.

The Indians, with two games left in league play, are a full three games in front of fourth-place Noble and four and a half ahead of Guymon. El Reno trails Carl Albert by a game and a half for second.

Starting a different lineup for a third straight game, El Reno High School’s boys basketball team circulated through 13 different players en route to a 74-54 wire-to-wire victory over Guymon.

The 20-point win closed out the home portion of the Indians District 5A-2 slate as El Reno has road games at Southeast and Carl Albert before wrapping up the season back at Jenks Simmons with a non-district game against the Oklahoma City Knights.

Hardy and the rest of the EHS wrestling team had a tough week, losing to Elk City (48-36) and Class 5A’s third-ranked Chickasha.

The loss to the Chicks left El Reno with a 2-9 mark in duals.

Posting its second highest point total in conference play, Redlands Community College women’s basketball team completed a regular-season sweep of Connors State College.

The Cougars, winners of four straight, move to 19-4 on the season with an 84-51 win over Connors State. Redlands remains in fourth in the NJCAA Region 2 standings at 6-3 but moved to within a game and a half of third place.

In the win over the Cowboys, Redlands was 34-of-70 from the floor for 49 percent.

Included in those numbers was a 7-of-26 effort from the 3-point arc for 27 percent.

Connors State College’s offense seems to have the number of the defense from Redlands Community College men’s basketball team, posting a second triple-digit effort against RCC.

The Cowboys 103-97 win over Redlands was the second highest point total allowed by the Redlands defense, three points shy of the 106 scored against RCC early last month. It was the third 100-point game allowed by the Cougars in league play.

OKARCHE – In a game of cat and mouse, Okarche High School’s girls basketball team used a 16-3 run late in the second period to pull away from Calumet for a 56-36 victory in a meeting of top 10 squads.

Okarche, ranked fifth in Class A, moved to 17-4 on the season after a recent win over Oklahoma Bible Academy (51-20) and a loss to Class A’s fourth-ranked Amber-Pocasset (33-27).

Calumet, ranked sixth in Class B1, had its six-game win streak end and falls to 16-5 overall. The streak included recent wins over Laverne (56-49) and Hydro-Eakly (42-27).

OKARCHE – In what is believed to be a school record performance, Okarche High School’s boys basketball team hit 24 3-pointers en route to a 117-68 win over rival Calumet in a battle of two defending state champions.

The 49-point victory pushed the Warriors, ranked No.1 in Class A, to 20-3 on the season and extends their current winning streak to 10 after recent victories over Amber-Pocasset (80-58) and Oklahoma Bible (99-25).

Senior Eryn Roman Nose scored eight points in the third period as El Reno High School’s girls basketball team broke out of a scoring cage to defeat the Guthrie Bluejays 50-35.

The double-digit win was the second in a row for El Reno and the fourth in the past five games as the Indians move to 11-8 on the season.

More importantly, the 15-point decision kept EHS in the third spot in the District 5A-2 standings at 8-3, two and a half games ahead of Noble.

Down multiple starters for a second straight game, senior Kason Haydon stepped up with a season-high scoring performance to lead El Reno High School’s boys basketball team past rival Guthrie.

The 64-57 road win gave El Reno the season sweep of the Bluejays and moved the Indians to 7-12 on the season.

The seven-point decision also snapped a three-game District 5A-2 losing streak for the Indians. El Reno is now 4-7 in district play and holds a two and a half game lead over Guthrie for fifth place.
