The smallest player on the court delivered some of the biggest baskets down the stretch for El Reno High School’s boys basketball team in a 72-64 win over Southeast.
Senior guard Bradley Island scored 12 of the team’s 17 points over the final four minutes as the Indians move to 5-8 on the season and snapped a two-game losing streak.
More importantly, the eight-point win lifted El Reno into fifth place in the District 5A-2 standings.
Completing a stretch of three road dates against ranked opponents, El Reno High School’s boys wrestling team went 0-2 against powerhouses Tuttle and Guthrie in a triangular dual.
El Reno slipped to 1-4 on the season after falling to Tuttle, ranked No.1 in Class 4A, 54-17. The Indians dropped a 49-24 match to the Bluejays, ranked sixth in Class 5A, for their fourth setback in a row.
Against Tuttle the Indians logged three wins as Turner Richardson (215) earned a forfeit and heavyweight Nick Mitchum scored a first-period fall (1:39) over Jesse Abston.
Calumet High School's boys basketball team, bumped from the top spot in the Class B-1 poll, responded by welcoming Class 2A’s Cordell to the Washita Valley Conference with a 100-24 road victory.
It’s the third game this season for the Chieftains to top the 100-point margin and the eighth time to score 90 or more. Calumet, now the No.2 team in the state, improves to 13-2 on the year and 6-1 in the WVC standings.
Mariah Ailey led a trio of players in double digits as Union City High School’s girls basketball team defeated Dover 48-41 to extend its current win streak to four games.
The unranked Tigers move to 11-6 on the season.
Ailey netted a pair of 3-pointers in the win over the Longhorns and closed with 14 points. Lilly Russell followed with 13 points and Keely Riley added 11 points.
Murray State outscored Redlands Community College women’s basketball team 24-11 in the fourth period to rally for a 72-66 victory, snapping the Cougars 15-game win streak.
Redlands tumbled from a first-place tie in the NJCAA Region 2 standings to alone in fourth place at 2-1.
The game was tied 33-all at intermission before Redlands went on a 22-15 break in the third period to lead by 55-48 going into the final period.
Redlands had just two players in double digits, led by Alaura Pruitt’s double-double of 18 points and 12 rebounds.
Despite double-double efforts from Damond Matthews and Justice Johnson, Redlands Community College men’s basketball team was left searching for its first regional road win of the season.
The Cougars dropped an 83-79 contest at Murray State to slide to 0-2 in NJCAA Region 2 and 1-2 overall in the standings – tied for sixth.
Redlands is now 7-10 on the season.
Matthews put up a team-high 31 points off 8-of-12 shooting that included a pair of 3-pointers and a 13-of-14 effort from the free-throw line. He added 10 rebounds and four assists.
For the second time this season, El Reno High School’s girls basketball team emerged from a tournament outing with two setbacks after losing 44-24 to Guymon in the consolation championship game of the 2026 Anadarko Warriors Classic.
The 20-point loss to the Tigers, who El Reno beat by 11 last month, dropped the Indians to 6-6 on the season. Jennifer Douglas’ team lost to Lawton Eisenhower (55-53) after trailing by as many as 20, before beating John Marshall (69-21) in the other two tourney games.
The host of the 2026 Anadarko Warriors Classic used an 18-11 run in the fourth quarter to defeat El Reno High School’s boys basketball team 44-36 in the third-place game.
El Reno dropped to 4-8 on the season with the loss to Anadarko, ranked No.17 in Class 3A, which came on the heels of a setback to Classen SAS (61-54) in the semifinals. The Indians opened the tourney with a win over Lawton Eisenhower (70-54).
Over the three games, El Reno shot 39 percent from the floor (57-of-146) including a 40-of-98 (41 percent) effort from 2-point range.
El Reno took 10 wrestlers to the 2026 Mustang Girls Wrestling Tournament, splitting the group between varsity and junior high matches.
In the high school division, Alivia Jackson (145) dropped two matches, while Bentley Sharp (235) went 3-1 to take third with falls over Claremore’s Scarlett Ramos (:43), Altus’ Anahi Uribus (2:27) and Sand Springs’ Heaven Bullis (2:40).
Billie Hinchey (155) went 2-2 after pinning Stillwater’s Selene Flores (3:31) and Southmoore’s Taya Amevor (3:01). Lilie Arrasmith (145) posted a 1-2 mark with a 1:18 fall over Ava Henry of Piedmont.
El Reno High School’s boys wrestling team, starting the 2026 portion of its schedule unranked, outwrestled Class 5A’s 15th-ranked Newcastle, coached by former EHS skipper Tyrone Lewis, on the mat.
However, it was the matches on paper that cost El Reno the victory.
“We won seven of the nine matches wrestled but we had to forfeit four weights due to injuries.
“That was 24 points we could not come back from,” said El Reno head coach Anthony McDonald of his team’s 41-37 loss to the Racers.
El Reno slipped to 1-2 on the dual season.
