Union City High School’s baseball team, ranked No.5 in Class A2, suffered its first loss of the season while hosting its annual spring break festival against a stack of ranked teams. The Tigers lost 9-3 to Talihina, No.9 in Class A, to slip to 5-1 on the season. Union City opened the event with wins over Class B’s fourth-ranked Leedey (7-6) and Class A2’s Depew (12-2).
In a new twist, El Reno High School’s baseball program took spring break off from competition instead of hosting games in the annual Union City Festival as it’s done for more than five years.
El Reno went into the break on a positive note after run-ruling Lawton Eisenhower 14-2 at the Hub Reed Complex to move to 2-5 on the season.
That win came less than 24 hours after dropping a 10-9 road game at Clinton.
El Reno High School’s tennis teams posted their first top 10 finishes of the season at the 2026 Lone Wolf Classic played at the Earlywine Complex.
The El Reno boys took third place behind Westmoore and Chisholm. The girls were fifth behind Chickasha, Westmoore, Chisholm and Weatherford.
Sergio Rosas paced the boys with a runner-up finish at No.2 singles.
He defeated Chisholm’s Houston Moore and John Marshall’s Tyler Moore in duplicate 8-1 pro-set matches.
Many matches were pro-sets due to the wind.
Reliever Mason Williams got the final out with the tying run at third base as Union City High School’s baseball team defeated Pioneer-Pleasant Vale 8-7 in a battle of top 10 teams.
The win moved Union City to 4-0 on the year and ahead of the Mustangs in the latest Class A2 poll to fifth place, while PPV slips from fourth to sixth.
Williams was credited with the save, while Blake Bailey got the win in relief of starter Aiden Williams. The trio had a combined seven-inning line of nine hits, eight walks, seven runs and six strikeouts.
Riding a 59-3 scoring edge, Union City High School’s slow-pitch softball team remains undefeated on the season with four wins en route to the title of its own spring break festival.
The Tigers are 6-0 after beating Community Christian (22-0), Burns Flat-Dill City (14-1), Bray-Doyle (12-0) and Hinton (11-2).
Union City went 78-of-110 (.709) from the plate for the four games including 21 extra base hits.
Kamryn Cook led the way with four home runs and three doubles.
The numbers and placing game worked against El Reno High School’s efforts to win a state title during the 2026 Oklahoma Powerlifting Coaches Association’s Large School State Championships.
El Reno added one lifter from a late at-large bid but still competed with seven overall, resulting in a fourth-place team finish with 30 points in the Class 5A division.
The Indians earned those points in two weights.
For the first time in five seasons, Redlands Community College advanced both teams to the semifinals of the NJCAA Region 2 Basketball Championships.
However, both teams were eliminated from the tourney a game short of title shots and tickets to the NJCAA National Championships.
The Redlands women, the third seed for regional, defeated Connors State (63-39) in the quarterfinals but fell to second-seeded Northeastern Oklahoma A&M (55-45) in the semifinals.
Battling a tough Bailey Ranch layout in Owasso, Redlands Community College women’s golf team finished as runner-up in the 2026 Hillcats Classic.
Rogers State, the host, won the 36-hole event with a 612 tally, followed by Redlands with a 649 after rounds of 322 and 327.
Indian Hills Community College, out of Iowa, was third, eight shots back of the Cougars at 657.
Ivanna Gerez led Redlands with a 157 effort (79/78), which placed her sixth in the individual medalist chase. Sophia Blake was a shot back (80/78) with a 158 to take seventh.
It took seven innings and the loss of an eight-game win streak over Guymon for El Reno High School’s baseball team to wake up both its offense and defense in a doubleheader with the Tigers.
They did both in a big way.
El Reno exploded for six first-inning runs and then seven in the seventh inning to defeat Guymon 16-3 and earn a District 5A-1 split.
The Tigers won the opening game 5-4 to snap an eight-game losing streak to the Indians, dating back to 2022, taking advantage of five EHS errors.
OKLAHOMA CITY – While both teams fell short of reaching the title game of their respective classes, Calumet and Okarche High School’s girls basketball teams served notice of things to come.
Calumet closed the season with a 22-8 record and a No.6 ranking following a 69-50 loss to fourth-ranked Turner in the quarterfinals of the Class B1 Oklahoma Basketball State Championships.
It was the first 20-win season for the Chieftains since 2020 and came after back-to-back seasons with single-digit win totals.
Calumet was making its ninth trip to state.
