OKLAHOMA CITY – Although winning games and sets in each bracket entered, El Reno High School’s tennis team brought home only one medal from the 2026 81 West Classic.

Playing at the Oklahoma City Tennis Center, El Reno placed seventh or better in seven divisions, yet only a runner-up finish by Jacob Richey garnered the hardware.

Richey, playing No.2 singles, had a quarterfinal bye before defeating Chisholm’s John Reed (7-5/4-6/10-8) in the semifinals. He would drop the title match to Elk City’s Ryker Coslow (6-2/6-1).

El Reno High School’s soccer teams, dormant for close to two weeks, jumped back into action last week with a road split against the Noble Bears.

The El Reno boys move to 3-0 on the year with a season-high five goals in a shutout win over the Bears.

Jose Apracio logged two goals and an assist, while Angel Zarate scored twice and Philip Oakes added a goal.

Diego Reyes, Demarco Guzman and Tristan Chandler had an assist each.

Aldo De La Torre was in net for El Reno and made five saves.

El Reno High School’s girls golf team kicked off the 2026 season last week with a top 10 finish at the Putnam City North Invitational.

Playing the West Course at Lincoln Park in Oklahoma City, El Reno posted a team score of 403 to take eighth place.

The Indians edged out Yukon by a shot and Piedmont’s junior varsity by 32 shots to close out the top 10.

Sophomore Radley Miller led El Reno with a round of 92 (48-44) to place 17th in the individual medalist race.

Lily Elliott’s 97 (48-49) netted her a 31st spot, while Addysen Ashford carded a 99 (49-50) for 35th.

A coveted piece of hardware from the Oklahoma Collegiate Athletic Conference, better known as NJCAA Region 2, will be staying in El Reno for another season.

Redlands Community College won the OCAC Women’s Golf Championships for a fifth straight season last week, besting Murray State College by a stroke, after posting its two lowest rounds of the spring season.

The Cougars carded rounds of 299 and 310 on the Lakeview Golf Course in Ardmore to record a 609 for the 36-hole event.

Hayden Mayfield picked up two more wins from the pitcher’s plate as Calumet High School’s slow-pitch softball team rolled to victories over Sentinel and Hinton.

The Chieftains downed Sentinel (12-1) and Hinton (9-0) to earn wins in four of their last five games.

Calumet, now 5-3 on the season, holds the No.12 ranking in the latest Class A poll.

Mayfield (5-2) posted an eight-inning line of six hits, three strikeouts, a run and a walk over the two games.

The defense behind her logged 107 put-outs and 19 assists and turned nine double plays.

Aiden Williams ovecame a rocky road start to earn his third win of the season as Union City High School’s baseball team defeated Class A2’s 20th-ranked Minco 5-4.

It was the Tigers third win in a 24-hour period after run-ruling Apache (18-1) and Ninnekah (13-5) to improve to 8-1 on the season.

Union City moved up a spot in the latest Class A2 poll to fourth.

Since the Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association switched the state’s two largest classifications to in-season district play, El Reno High School’s girls basketball team has dominated voting for postseason awards.

The Indians have collected 27 all-district spots over the three years, including seven superlative awards and two Player of the Year laurels.

Those numbers include this year’s seven spots over the four teams making up the 2026 Girls All-District 5A-2 selections.

El Reno High School’s baseball team was slated to return to District 5A-1 play Monday and Tuesday against Santa Fe South before entering the Bryson Cael Memorial Festival.

The Indians are currently 2-5 on the season and 1-3 in district play.

Though finishing fifth in league play, El Reno High School’s boys basketball team rebounded from an 0-3 start to finish above .500 over the final 11 games of the race.

It was a turnaround which caught the eye of league coaches as El Reno collected six spots over the five squads making up the 2026 All-District 5A-2 selections.

It was the second most picks among the eight member schools behind district winner Carl Albert with 10, plus Coach of the Year Jay Price.

For the second straight year, the University of Central Oklahoma has signed one of the area’s top scorers.

Okarche High School senior Jett Mueggenborg (center) signed with the Bronchos in a small event at the school.

Mueggenborg is a three-time state champion and holds the school’s career scoring record and ranks in the top 10 for scoring in Oklahoma state tournaments.
