El Reno High School’s boys basketball team snapped a four-game losing streak against the Oklahoma City Storm, closing out the 2022-23 regular season with a 72-44 victory over the home-school program.
The 27-point win came in the third game over four days for El Reno, which lost two previous contests to Kingfisher and Bishop McGuinness. The Indians, ranked third in the Class 5A West standings, took a 15-6 record into the regional round of the playoffs.
The Elite Eight is a term commonly associated with Okarche High School’s girls basketball program and the Warriors are once again on the doorstep of yet another berth in the state tourney.
The seventh-ranked Warriors defeated No.9 Arapaho-Butler 66-44 to win the Class A, Area II, Region C Championships. Okarche will take its four-game win streak into the area title game against third-ranked Vanoss Friday in Shawnee, with the winner punching a state ticket.
Okarche is now 22-5 on the season and sports an 11-0 record against other Class A teams.
Five players posted numbers in double figures as Calumet High School’s boys basketball team defeated Kremlin-Hillsdale 69-50 to win the Class B, Area I, Region A Championships.
The victory extended the Chieftains win streak to 23 games.
Fourth-ranked Calumet now takes a 25-1 record into the Area I championship game on Friday against No.8 Goodwell.
That game will be played in Woodward with the winner moving on to state.
El Reno High School’s baseball program held a pancake breakfast fundraiser recently.
More than 300 people were served pancakes and sausage, and in addition to decal and team hat sales, generated $3,200 for the program to use toward expenses.

CALUMET – No matter the outcome of the regional finals, Calumet High School’s boys basketball team will be one of three Canadian County small schools automatically advancing to the area round of the postseason.
The Chieftains, ranked fourth in the state, secured the pass to area with a 74-47 win over 20th-ranked Lomega in the semifinals of the Class B, Area I, Region A Championships.

MUSTANG – The first tickets to the 2023 Oklahoma State High School Wrestling Championships were punched here last week for two El Reno High School grapplers.
Competing in the Girls West Regional, Kaylee Davis and Hannah Koen placed fifth or better in their weight classes to earn state spots. The pair combined for 43 of El Reno’s 54 points.
