El Reno punches ticket to state on Palmer buzzer beater

Body

EDMOND – The shot he wasn't supposed to take ended up the clutch basket which sent El Reno High School's boys basketball team back to the Class 5A state tournament.

Senior Diante Palmer banked in a 3-pointer at the buzzer as El Reno defeated cross-county rival Piedmont 47-46 to win the Class 5A West Area 2 Consolation Championships.

“We had a play to run to get the ball to Carter (Roman Nose) so he could shoot the 3-pointer. I ended up with the ball in my hands and I went ahead and took the shot,” said Palmer.

MUSTANG – Seventy six.

That's the number of days El Reno High School's girls basketball team has been waiting for another crack at second-ranked Piedmont after a four-point loss in December.

“When we lost to them at the beginning of the year I wanted this rematch and I knew it would come down to playoffs. We have been prepping every since,” said El Reno head coach Jennifer Douglas.

Prep work she kept under wraps and away from the eyes of Piedmont head coach Eric Carr.
