News that Halliburton will close its El Reno operation and lay off more than 800 employees shook the community Monday morning. By Tuesday morning, Halliburton had announced it was moving the El Reno operation back to Duncan.

Halliburton spokeswoman Erin Fuchs released the following statement Tuesday after reports of the closure were made public:

More than 800 people are expected to lose their jobs as Halliburton announces it will close its El Reno operation.

The announcement came Monday morning, the same day the layoffs were planned. At least three El Reno police vehicles were stationed at the Halliburton campus at 6100 East SH 66.

The layoffs were expected to be permanent.

El Reno Mayor Matt White said he was notified Monday morning by Bill Hancock, the coordinator of Oklahoma’s Workforce Services and State Rapid Response Team, about the closing and layoffs.
