Redlands Community College has extended the deadline to apply for admission to the nursing program to Friday, May 1. Applicants who are unable to complete the application requirements by the new deadline may be considered for conditional acceptance into the program and will be required to complete all the steps by Tuesday, July 30, by 5 p.m. to maintain full admission, if selected, into the nursing program

Due to a higher demand for COVID-19 testing at the Yukon satellite office, the Canadian County Health Department will be holding a drive-up test location on Friday.
The testing will be done at Yukon’s Middle School from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. No appointment will be needed to get tested for the virus, but residents will need to show some symptoms.
Officers from the Yukon Police Department and deputies from the Canadian County Sheriff’s office will be on site for traffic control.
Downtown El Reno looks very different.
Parking lots are empty, as are the sidewalks. Very few cars are parked on the streets in front of storefronts.
Between the somewhat recent bust in the energy industry and now the fallout from COVID-19, a serious toll has been taken on El Reno’s historic downtown district.
More than 20 downtown shops and offices have shut their doors. At least a dozen of these will not operate in any capacity until the quarantine is lifted.

Hundreds of vehicles took to cruising Route 66 last week as a show of unity in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. The event was set up on social media as a safe way to get out and see other citizens of El Reno but to keep the social distancing guidelines set forth during the COVID-19 pandemic.
El Reno police are working with the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation after the body of a man was found Sunday morning in what is an apparent homicide.
Assistant Police Chief Kirk Dickerson said the man’s body was found lying in the street in the 100 block of North Barker.
The body was found about 2:30 a.m. on Sunday. Reports said officers found the man unresponsive and called for an ambulance.
Pafford Emergency Medical Services arrived and declared the man deceased.
Members of the El Reno Public Schools Board of Education were scheduled to meet by teleconference Monday evening.
This was the first time the board collectively used Zoom, a video conference app. Each board member was expected to connect to the app through their phone or computer. In addition, they planned to use their school-issued iPad to read items on the agenda.
While most board members were scheduled to participate remotely, Assistant Superintendent Matt Goucher was on location at the school’s administration office.
Residents and family members should protect themselves and their families from encountering COVID-19.
That means understanding what COVID-19 is, how it is spread and why it is dangerous.
Practicing the social distancing rules during this outbreak, which is staying 6 feet apart from another person, and wearing a mask and gloves are ways to prevent encountering the COVID-19 virus.
COVID-19 can include a sudden onset of a high fever, bodily aches and pains, sore throat/dry cough, shortness of breath and feeling fatigued.
