Kathleen Douglass began helping with the making of the “Big Bun” back in 2001.
She learned the secrets as well as the recipe from Henry Jo and Donna VonTungeln while helping to prepare the dough at their home. In 2008, Douglass recruited her good friend, Kim Eden, to help with the process.
Douglass was serving as an administrator with the El Reno Fire Department, while Eden was in a similar position at the police department.
Wesley United Methodist Church El Reno celebrated and dedicated its designation as a Historic Site with significance to the Methodist Church last Sunday.
Wesley El Reno is the eighth site in El Reno to receive Historic Site status from the Methodist Church’s Commission on Archives and History, located in Madison, N.J.
El Reno’s Cora Newby got really involved in the “tagging of monarch butterflies” during an activity at the BlueSTEM AgriLearning Center at Fort Reno.
BlueSTEM students were involved in the recent annual Agriscience Symposium at Redlands Community College.

An El Reno man was killed Tuesday when the motorcycle he was driving collided with a vehicle.
Major Kirk Dickerson with El Reno police said 37-year-old Bradley Keith Joseph suffered fatal injuries in the collision that happened at SH 66 and South Radio Road.
Fresh Anointing Church will host an end-of-school party May 21 at Legion Park. The event will be held from noon to 4 p.m. and is for students pre-kindergarten through 12th grade.

It’s a chance to celebrate Cinco de Mayo and benefit a great cause at the same time, organizers say – and they hope more people will sign up to join the fun.
That cause is Intervention and Crisis Advocacy Network – or ICAN – and the celebration is the agency’s Cinco De Mayo event, scheduled from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. May 5.
“There are so many worthwhile events that are happening this time of year,” ICAN Executive Director Matt Whetzel said.
A longtime Canadian County Sheriff’s Office employee is retiring, and while he might not have the most years in service at the department, his story is one of miracles and devotion.
Bob Stuart began his career with CCSO in February 2010 when then-Sheriff Randall Edwards hired him to serve as the county jail administrator.
It was a role he was “supremely” suited for, said Canadian County Commissioner Jack Stewart.
Four vendors are seeking a contract with the Canadian County Sheriff’s Office to provide a full body scanner at the county jail. In a first for Canadian County, two of those companies submitted their bids online.
To help keep inmates from bringing drugs and weapons into the county jail, Undersheriff Kevin Ward said the sheriff’s office will install a full body scanner in the jail’s receiving area.
The four bids ranged from $105,000 to $147,000.
Canadian County OSU Extension Center will host El Reno Wheat Field Day May 17.
The day is to help inform regional wheat farmers about the popular wheat varieties being grown in the central region of Oklahoma.
The field day will highlight popular varieties and a few varieties currently being researched that have not been released to growers and are currently still being tested.
Dr. Amanda Silva, OSU wheat specialist, will discuss the characteristics of each of the varieties that are in the test plots.
WASHINGTON – An attorney arguing for the state of Oklahoma told U.S. Supreme Court justices that “thousands of crimes” have gone unprosecuted since a ruling two years ago removed state jurisdiction over many crimes in a large part of eastern Oklahoma.
