El Reno’s art scene has some new creations as well as an old venue getting some new life.
Roger and Anna Rinehart are bringing back the Corridor Art Gallery inside the Kraft Building, 114 S. Rock Island in downtown.
The first artist to exhibit is Sue D.L. Smith. Also on display are art works created by Catherine Brandt.
Smith has more than a dozen pieces on display inside the gallery. Her works include oils as well as pencil drawings and photography
Longtime El Reno attorney David Halley was sworn in last week as Canadian County’s newly appointed special judge. The oath was administered by Canadian County District Judge Paul Hesse.
Halley replaces Khristan Strubhar as a Canadian County special judge. Strubhar was elected as a new district judge, succeeding the recently retired Jack D. McCurdy II.
Halley thanked Judge Hesse, Judge Strubhar and Judge McCurdy for “giving me this opportunity to serve Canadian County and its residents.”
The El Reno Chamber of Commerce will again partner with the El Reno Tribune to host a candidate forum, this time for the upcoming El Reno Public School Board election.
The Chamber and Tribune hosted a candidate forum for the November city council and mayoral race and like the earlier one, the school board forum will be held at Redlands Community College.
The forum is set for 6:30 p.m. Feb. 7.
Voters in Canadian County who want absentee ballots mailed to them for the Feb. 14 City of Yukon Council Member at Large, City of Yukon Special Election, Riverside School Special Election, Deer Creek School Primary Board of Education Election, El Reno School Primary Board of Education Election and Mustang School Special Election should apply now, Canadian County Election Board Acting Secretary Allen Arnold said.
Oklahoma Oil & Natural Gas is sponsoring an energy education workshop on Feb. 4 at Okarche High School.
All teachers are welcome to register to attend for free and leave with up to $1,100 in classroom supplies.
The free workshops coordinated by the Oklahoma Energy Resources Board (OERB) offer training in nine different energy curricula for K-12.
Each curriculum includes hands-on lessons aligned to Oklahoma academic standards and provide real-world applications to concepts that are already being taught in the classroom.

The Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes held a burial remembrance ceremony to lay to rest the remains of two young females and one male repatriated under the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA) from the University of Denver.
The ceremony took place Dec. 20.
The El Reno Public Schools Foundation has another scholarship to award after the Matt and Elisha White Scholarship was created.
Dana Gibson, longtime board member of the ERPS Foundation, said the scholarship will be endowed at the Oklahoma City Community Foundation and will provide a minimum of $1,000 per year to the selected student.
White, the former mayor of El Reno and his wife created the scholarship as a way to “give back” to the community.
Several annual appointments were finalized as Canadian County commissioners conducted their first meeting of 2023.
Mustang’s David Anderson, the four-term District 2 commissioner, will continue as chairman of the three-member board for this calendar year. Commissioners typically rotate chairmanship, but Anderson agreed Jan. 3 to remain chair for another year since two-thirds of the board has changed since late November.
“The chairman conducts the meetings and does all of the official communication on behalf of the board to anyone who corresponds with us,” Anderson said.
