Effort to bar child access to porn overcomes push-back

Body

After the state of Texas imposed age-verification requirements for porn sites, Pornhub announced it would cease business in the state.

Oklahoma could soon join the list of states with similar age-verification laws for porn content.

The proposal has received bipartisan support — and surprisingly vocal push-back from some legislators.

Child Sex Abuse Material Bill passes House

Body

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma House Rep. Melissa Provenzano, D-Tulsa, passed HB 3936 off the House floor last week, which changes the term “Child Pornography” to “Child Sex Abuse Material" in statute.

“The word pornography suggests that children can consent, which they cannot. Every image depicting what we call ‘Child Pornography’ is a crime scene. This bill makes a necessary clarification on the legal term ‘Child Pornography’ and better defines what the material actually is,” Provenzano said.
