Holding off a fourth-period rally by Southeast, El Reno High School’s boys basketball team defeated the Spartans 53-49 to move into the Consolation Championship of the 2026 Shawnee Invitational.

The win snapped a three-game losing streak and moved the Indians to 6-11 on the season. El Reno, which lost to the host (52-43) in the quarterfinals, was slated to play the Oklahoma City Storm for third but the tournament was called off due to weather.

El Reno closed its three in-season tournament outings with a 3-5 record.

PIEDMONT – Three upper-weight wins allowed El Reno High School’s boys wrestling team to avoid being shut out in a 50-15 road duel loss to Piedmont – ranked No.7 in Class 6A.

El Reno dropped its fifth straight outing, all to top-15 teams, and slipped to 1-5 on the season.

El Reno lost four weights by falls and a fifth by technical fall. The team also forfeited three weights, which added 18 points to Piedmont’s total.

El Reno High School’s boys wrestling team pushed two grapplers into the top five at the recent 60th Annual Malcolm Wade Titans Classic.

Junior Nick Mitchum (285) took third place, followed by a fourth-place effort from senior Diesel Baker (138). El Reno took 13 grapplers to the event, finishing with a collective 17-25 record.

Mitchum posted a 6-1 record with five falls.

His fastest was in 32 seconds over Ada’s Gage Van Horn, while two pins were against Carl Albert’s Korbin Pendley – the last in 3:42 for the bronze.

Fueled by one of its best shooting nights of the season, El Reno High School’s girls basketball team jumped back into the win column with a 64-30 decision over Lawton.

The 34-point victory moved El Reno to 8-7 on the season and gave the Indians the season sweep of the Wolverines.

More importantly, El Reno improved to 6-3 in the District 5A-2 standings and maintains the third seed at 6-3. The Indians trail Midwest City (8-0) by 2.5 games and Carl Albert (7-0) by two but stayed a game and a half ahead of Noble (4-4).

Hampered by 34 percent shooting and 19 turnovers over the final three periods, El Reno High School’s boys basketball team dropped a 71-47 home game to Lawton.

The 22-point victory gave the Wolverines the season sweep over El Reno as the Indians slipped to 5-10 on the year.

The league loss was the second in a row for EHS, which dropped to 3-6 in the District 5A-2 standings.

El Reno remains in fifth place in the league but now trails Lawton by 2.5 games and Noble by two. Midwest City and Carl Albert are the top two seeds.

Despite having two starters out due to sickness, Union City High School’s girls basketball team defeated Geary 62-14 to extend its current win streak to six games.

The Tigers improved to 13-6 on the year as the streak included a 51-7 romp over ASTEC Charter.

Despite having a better win total than nine teams in the top 20 of the latest Class B-1 poll, Union City slipped three spots in the rankings to No.26.

Keely Riley led all Union City scorers with 30 points for the two-game set, followed by Kamryn Cook with 22 and 17 from Mariah Alley.

Jett Mueggenborg uncorked what is believed to be a school-record 51-point performance as Okarche High School’s boys basketball team defeated Hennessey 99-41.

The Warriors, ranked No.1 in Class A, moved to 16-3 on the season with the 58-point blowout – its sixth straight win. It was Okarche’s 14th game this season scoring 90 or more points and followed an 88-48 victory over Thomas-Fay-Custer.

Mueggenborg scored his career-high mark off a 20-of-29 (69 percent) shooting effort.

Churning out a season-high block total and its third highest 3-point production, Redlands Community College men’s basketball team snapped a two-game losing streak with a 73-64 win over Western Oklahoma.

Redlands improved to 8-11 on the season and drew closer to the top of the NJCAA Region 2 standings. The Cougars are currently eighth at 2-3 but a half game out of third place.

From behind the arc the Cougars logged 27 points off 41 percent (9-of-22) shooting.

A late-game shooting slump forced Redlands Community College women’s basketball team into the loss column for a third straight outing after dropping a 62-54 home bid to Western Oklahoma.

The eight-point setback dropped the Cougars to 15-4 on the season. Redlands remains in the fourth spot in the NJCAA Region 2 standings at 2-3.

Down by 10 points in the third period, Redlands rallied to within a point, 52-51, on a Myracle Washington free-throw line jumper with just over five minutes to play.
