It took less than 15 minutes for El Reno High School’s girls wrestling team to remain undefeated at home, scoring two falls and four forfeit victories en route to a 36-12 decision over Class 5A’s ninth-ranked Hinton.

El Reno, which fell out of the top 15 in the Class 6A poll, moved to 2-0 at home and 2-2 on the season with the 24-point win.

The Indians had three falls on the night but senior Kaylee Davis (145) earned a forfeit win before pinning Kimberly Lara nine seconds into an exhibition match.

El Reno High School’s wrestling program held its annual Alumni Night last week prior to the home match against Chickasha.

Over a dozen former wrestlers were recognized for their work to build the EHS program over decades.

Despite losing the final four weights, El Reno High School’s wrestling team jumped back into the win column last week to keep bragging rights in the wrestling version of the U.S. 81 Battle with the Indians.

El Reno, ranked ninth in Class 5A, moved to 4-3 on the season with a 36-34 win over Chickasha. It was the first defeat of the season for the Chicks, ranked third in the same poll.

Adelyn Davis made only one late free throw against Gracemont but it was the biggest of her career as Calumet High School’s girls basketball team earned its first win of the season.

Davis made the front end of a two-shot trip to the free-throw line with 7.2 seconds left to give the Chieftains a 30-29 lead. The Lions had two chances in the waning seconds to get off a shot, but could not inbound the ball on either shot.

A stifling defense led to a lopsided margin in transition points as El Reno High School’s girls basketball team returned to District 5A-1 action last week with a 75-13 win over Western Heights.

The 62-point victory, El Reno’s widest winning margin, moved the Indians to 11-0 on the season.

Jennifer Douglas’ team is the only undefeated squad in Class 5A and moved to 5-0 in the district standings, a game ahead of Shawnee and two in front of both Carl Albert and Elgin.

Riding a pair of first-half scoring breaks, El Reno High School’s boys basketball team battled past an upset-minded Western Heights club for a 77-51 victory in the Indians return to District 5A-1 play.

The 26-point win was the fifth straight for El Reno as the Indians improved to 9-2 overall. The victory kept Rodney Haydon’s team locked in a tie with Carl Albert for third in the 5A-1 standings, both with 3-2 marks.

Crossings Christian (6-0) and Guthrie (5-0) remain atop the league standings, with the Bluejays set to visit Jenks Simmons Field House next for the Indians.

El Reno High School’s girls wrestling team tied for 18th out of 46 teams at the recent Supergirl 64 Wrestling Tournament held at Tulsa Union.

The Indians scored 42 points and were tied with Tuttle. El Reno was 17 points out of the top 15 and 29 points shy of the top 10 without bracket points from Kaylee Davis.

The returning state champion, with only one loss this season, withdrew after the first day with an illness, said head coach Chad Whitney. She was one of four EHS wrestlers to make the gold bracket.

Jadyn Rother scored a team-high 26 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, as Okarche High School’s girls basketball team defeated Watonga 59-38 in the third-place game of the 2024 Three Rivers Conference Championship.

Despite going 2-1 in the event, beating Crescent (66-20) and falling to Fairview (52-45), the Warriors dropped out of the most recent Class A poll. Okarche, now 7-6 on the season, was ranked 18th at the start of the three-game set.

Undefeated Calumet High School’s boys basketball team continues to churn out both the points and the victories after averaging 74 points per outing over the three-game set leading to the championship from the 2024 Alex Longhorns Classic.

The top-ranked team in Class B extended its regular-season winning streak, dating back to last season, to 35 in a row after beating Wynnewood 87-45 in the first round.
