Early calls put Indians behind eight ball

Body

MIDWEST CITY - Two momentum-turning calls, both going in favor of Carl Albert, put El Reno High School’s football team behind the proverbial eight ball in its seventh straight trip to the postseason.

Both calls would lead to 14 points for the top-ranked Titans and were part of a run of 42 unanswered points as Carl Albert defeated El Reno 49-21 in the bi-district round of the Class 5A playoffs.

The loss snaps a two-game win streak for El Reno and ends its season with a 6-5 record.

From the sidelines: Tale of two toes

Body

Tucked away on the east end of Memorial Stadium, Gage Baeriswyl and Jacob Smith go through their daily drills just like every other member of El Reno High School’s football team.

The difference is neither of their names are commonly found on the lips of those talking about El Reno football as the Indians enter the final week of the regular season.

In fact, their names are often mistaken by announcers, both home and away, either by mispronunciation or the fact they wear jerseys with numbers only two digits apart.
