El Reno sets starting point for season at Weatherford tourney

Body

Turning in what head coach Cameron Wilkens calls a starting point, El Reno High School’s girls golf team teed it up in the first tournament of the season last week.

El Reno placed near the top 10 in the team race at the 2022 Weatherford Invitational with a round of 471.

“I think that score reflects every girl shooting about 10 strokes more than what they have been shooting.

“This is a starting point,” said Wilkens.

A cold front that moved over the Prairie West Golf Course between nines played havoc with El Reno High School golfers as well as the rest of the field at the 2022 Weatherford Invitational.

“The greens were very fast and a cold front came in during the turn which added several strokes onto everyone’s scores. We did OK for our first tournament of the year but we have a lot of work to do on things such as our short game and our putting.

The class of the conference

The outcome of El Reno High School girls basketball team’s season seems to uphold Aristotle’s famous teachings that “the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.”

However, those parts that made up a 24-5 squad and carried the Indians to their second state championship game in four years were pretty darn good and were recently honored with eight spots on the 2022 All-Suburban Conference Team.
