Separation of church and state not found in Constitution

Body

In the present year of COVID-19, tyrannical governors shut down religious services, a First Amendment right, as fast as they could.

During the summer months, Antifa defaced and with ropes tore down statues of our past national heroes including those who made America free, as for example, George Washington and Abraham Lincoln, and they even threatened to destroy statues of Christ.

They also set afire churches, one, St. John’s Episcopal, located near the White House. In these states there is definitely developing hostility against the Constitution and liberty.

Biden’s HHS pick no friend of free speech, unborn

Body

Joe Biden says he will name radical abortion activist Xavier Becerra as his Health and Human Services secretary. Becerra is more than just an ardent supporter of abortion — he is actively trying to put David Daldein and Sandra Merritt in prison for exposing the Planned Parenthood abortion businesses sale of body parts from aborted babies.

Though Becerra, like Biden, claims to be Catholic, his record involving the lives of unborn babies and those who work to protect them is terrible.

Gun control: It ain’t gonna happen, America

Body

A few weeks before the 2020 election, I visited a local gun shop. It was a madhouse. Weapons flew off the shelves as fast as customers could get their wallets out.

Ammunition was in short supply too. Why? Well, on the front door, a flier warned that, if elected, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris would act quickly to push “gun control” legislation through Congress.

“Panic buying” before a big election, just in case, is the norm. That means booming business for gun dealers, but there’s just not much reason for gun owners or would-be gun owners to worry.

Giving thanks to society’s economic benefactors

Body

With all the attention commanded by the presidential campaign, election and aftermath, plus the ongoing COVID-19 story, many other issues have faded into the background.

Though escaping the headlines, some of these other issues will be with us for a long time, and contributions to the public discussion of such issues will often have a long-term impact.

As COVID-19 winter nears, Oklahoma must act

Body

Oklahoma set a record for COVID-19 hospitalizations last week, and the United States reached a grim milestone of more than 250,000 coronavirus deaths.

After earlier surges in the spring and summer, the country is now in the midst of the feared fall coronavirus surge and we’re peering into the darkness that winter will bring. With more than 1,500 Oklahomans now hospitalized and new positive cases averaging more than 2,600 per day, it’s time for Oklahoma to act.

On Nov. 17 and 18, Oklahoma reported COVID-19 daily records for hospitalizations, ICU patients and deaths.

El Reno employees, cleanup coordinators should be praised for quick response

Body

How about a giant round of applause for every city of El Reno employee and those who coordinated the cleanup after the late October ice storm.

By far, El Reno is ahead of other cities in this area, including Oklahoma City, Yukon and Mustang when it comes to cleanup. Oklahoma City is just now starting cleanup and Yukon residents have been told the cleanup there could extend into next spring.

El Reno is projected to be limb-free by Nov. 22. That didn’t happen by accident. It happened because of leadership, management and perseverance.

U.S. Supreme Court Packing: Destabilizing and unnecessary

Body

The idea of expanding the size of the U.S. Supreme Court, also known as court packing, has surfaced once again, as it did after the Brett Kavanaugh appointment.

Often mentioned is a proposal by Erwin Chemerinsky, dean of University of California Berkeley’s Law School. He favors increasing the size of the court to 13 instead of its current nine.

Letter to the Editor: Thanking windmill volunteers

Body

To the Editor:

I want to thank all of you for the work on taking down the old windmill at the museum so it can be repaired.

Vardie Keenon would be proud of you all. That was his baby.

The only one I could recognize in the pictures was Ellis on top of the windmill.

Thanks to you all and you too, Vicki Proctor.
