Funeral services for Lorena McCray of El Reno were held Friday, Jan. 3 at New Hope Baptist Church with Rev. Dick Kurtz officiating. Burial was in the Canadian Valley Cemetery (McCray Cemetery) northeast of Calumet. Services were under the direction of Huber-Benson Funeral Home.

Lorena died Jan. 1, 2020, at Integris Hospice House in Oklahoma City. She was born Jan. 16, 1935, in El Reno to John Edmond Sr. and Edna (Burton) Bowers. She was raised in El Reno, graduating from El Reno High School, and worked for Canadian County in the court clerk’s office.

Stanley Simon Youngheim

Stanley Simon Youngheim, 94, of El Reno, passed away Saturday, Dec. 28, 2019. The son of Herman and Estelle Youngheim, Stanley was born in El Reno on March 29, 1925, and was raised and schooled alongside his brother, Aaron, nine years his senior, in El Reno until he graduated in 1943.

After a short time at both the University of Oklahoma and Texas A&M University, Stanley enlisted in the Army. There he served in Battery B's 533rd Rocket Field Artillery Battalion, where he obtained the rank of Sergeant, until his honorable discharge in early 1946.

Dr. Michael Furgeson

Dr. Michael Furgeson, M.D., Ph.D., 68, passed away Saturday, Dec. 21, 2019. He was born Oct. 10, 1951, in Sherman, Texas.

Michael married the love of his life, Tammi Furgeson, on St. Patrick’s Day 1990, sharing nearly 30 years of marriage.

Michael graduated from Baylor University in 1976 with a master’s degree in anatomy, and in June 1984 he received his M.D. from the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center.

Joye Earlene Reimers

Body

Joye Earlene Reimers was born in Hinton on Aug. 14, 1927, to Samuel Earl and Darlena Ruth (Willingham) French. She peacefully departed this life on Dec. 22, 2019.

Earlene attended El Reno High School where she played the coronet in the band and graduated in 1944. In 1948 she met Daniel Webster Reimers. They were married on April 10, 1949. Together they had four children.

Connie Shrum

Funeral services for Connie J. Shrum will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 28 at Calumet Public Schools with Dr. Keith Weldon officiating. Burial will follow in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery west of Watonga. Services are under the direction of Wilson Funeral Home.

Connie went to be with the Lord on Dec. 23, 2019, at the age of 74. Her final days were at Integris Hospital in Yukon, after a year-long, courageous battle with cancer.

Yvonne Phelps

Funeral services for Yvonne Marie Phelps of Cogar/Minco were held Friday at Cogar United Methodist Church. Services were under the direction of Huber-Reynolds Funeral Home of Minco.

Yvonne died Dec. 23, 2019, at St. Anthony’s Hospital in El Reno. She was born April 13, 1938, in Fort Sill. Yvonne grew up in Chickasha, graduating from Chickasha High School in 1955.

She was a homemaker and had worked as an executive assistant in the state Senate for 15 years. She then started a wedding catering business.

David Pawpa

Body

Funeral services for David Leslie Pawpa will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Concho Community Hall. Burial will be in the Concho Cemetery under the direction of Huber-Benson Funeral Home.

Mr. Pawpa died Dec. 19, 2019, at Mercy Health Center in Oklahoma City. He was living at the Veterans Center in Clinton where he was born July 17, 1951.

David was an Army veteran serving in Vietnam and worked as a roofer.

Funeral services for Loretta Fay Wood will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 26 in the Benson Memorial Chapel with Rev. Bob Hines officiating. Burial will be in the Union City Cemetery under the direction of Huber-Benson Funeral Home.

Loretta died Dec. 21, 2019, at her home in Union City. She was born Oct. 30, 1934, in Union City. She worked for Canadian County, retiring with 21 years of service. She was a member of the Baptist church and the founder of the Grow and Give Flower Club.
