Casey Trejo said business is good.

The El Reno realtor has been seeing a steady flow of buyers and sellers for property all around town. They walk into her downtown office regularly.

There’s only one area that is struggling to jump on the El Reno bandwagon … the historic downtown.

Trejo said that’s got to change.

An El Reno native, Trejo, along with a few others stepped in to fill the void created when the El Reno Main Street program went through some major changes. Together they created the Historic Downtown El Reno Foundation.

Despite logging nine hits, El Reno High School’s baseball team kicked off the 2026 spring season on the short end of a doubleheader against the Midwest City Bombers.

El Reno fell 6-2 at the Hub Reed Complex before dropping the road game 10-1. The Indians are now tied for fifth in the District 5A-1 standings at 0-2 with Santa Fe South, Guymon and Southeast.

El Reno had six hits in the home loss, led by a 3-for-3 effort from Garrett March. Gage Lesperance went 2-for-4 and Will Gipson added a single.

Why yes, Kate, politics can be enjoyable

Politics isn’t really my jam. It’s not that I’m uninterested, it just seems so complicated. And I really dislike the ugliness that goes on between the parties. Don’t worry, this column isn’t about politics, and it never will be. 

This column is about the day I spent at the Oklahoma State Capitol with my great-niece, Kate Menz. I got to attend the Oklahoma Press Association Legislative Summit at the Capitol and thought Kate would enjoy tagging along.

Rodney Haydon stood in front of his team in the locker room fighting back a wave of emotions that were building up inside the veteran coach.

His voice was crackly with each word, weighed down by a tough rebuilding season which ended minutes earlier with a two-point loss in the regional semifinals.
