El Reno lifters win regional title, set sights on state

The 2026 Oklahoma Powerlifting Coaches Association’s State Championships return to Jenks Simmons Field House this week, with El Reno High School looking to battle for a team title.

The Indians have placed fifth or better six times since 2018 including back-to-back state titles in the Class 5A Large School Division (2021-22). Last year El Reno was runner-up to Durant by seven points.

This year El Reno will have five lifters in the high school state field after the team took the Northwest Regional Championship with 112 points, 31 more than Guthrie.

Weatherford blanks El Reno, Indians seek first win

El Reno High School’s baseball team slipped to 0-3 on the spring season after dropping a 9-0 road decision to Weatherford.

The Indians were held to one hit, a single by Garrett March, and went 1-of-13 from the plate.

Gage Lesperance took the loss on the hill for the Indians, allowing four runs off four hits and three walks, while fanning two batters. Leighton Wedman gave up five runs off six hits and a walk.

Soccer splits with Eagles

El Reno High School’s soccer teams split home outings with Weatherford last week.

Tristan Chandler (10) scored a goal for the boys in a 1-0 win over the Eagles. Philip Oakes and Angel Zarate had three shots each and DeMarco Guzman had eight shots.

El Reno moves to 2-0 on the year.

Lily Hayes (4) had one of two shots for the girls in a 7-0 setback, dropping EHS to 1-1 overall.
