Having been gashed for more than 230 yards and 18 points in the second half, El Reno High School’s Blue Crush defense was on its heels while trying to protect a six-point lead.

Adding salt to the wound was a driving Altus team with a second-and-goal from the Indians 9-yard line.

They needed a big tide-turning play. It came with 4:05 to play and El Reno leading 36-31.

Altus wideout Jamele Alexander took a pitch out on a sweep play but was immediately hit by El Reno defensive back Xzavier Karty, jarring the ball loose.
