Redlands drops SSC game after league openers

Redlands Community College’s baseball team jumped up a division last week to face Region 2 powerhouse Seminole State College, dropping a 12-1 decision to the Trojans. The loss came three days after Redlands ended a four-game set with the University of Arkansas Rich Mountain with a 22-11 loss.

The Cougars split the home set at Don Brown Field against the Bucks, winning the opener by a 12-4 margin.

Graveside services for Warner Rogers Allen, 88, of El Reno will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 29 at the El Reno Cemetery.

OKLAHOMA CITY – On his 12th trip to the plate as a freshman, Davin Shamblin hit a solo home run to give his team an early lead in a district road game.

Spin forward 1,113 days and the El Reno High School senior did it again.

Shamblin’s second career home run gave the Indians a 1-0 lead in the opening game of a twinbill with Western Heights as El Reno went on to sweep the Jets to remain tied for the District 5A-1 lead.

“I hadn’t had that feeling in awhile,” said Shamblin of his home run.

Through the efforts of the El Reno High School Quarterback Club, the city took center stage for the seventh straight year as host of the Oklahoma Powerlifting Coaches Association State Meet.

“We will host this as long as they (OPCA) allow us. It’s getting better and better each year and our kids work hard at hosting it,” said El Reno head football coach Russell Cook.

For three days Jenks Simmons Field House and annex were the home to 1,300 lifters representing 147 schools. Competitors in grades seventh through 12th lifted in 11 different weight classes.
