Calumet, Union City find mixed diamond results

Carson Cooper logged Calumet High School’s lone base hits in a 4-0 loss to top-ranked Fort Cobb-Broxton as the Chieftains had a two-game win streak snapped in the shutout loss.

Calumet, ranked second in the same Class B poll, slipped to 6-4-1 with its second loss this spring to the Mustangs. The Chieftains were coming off wins over Class A-I’s eighth-ranked Okarche (5-1) and Blackwell (15-3).

The Chieftains went 20-of-66 (.303) from the plate for the three games with only two extra base hits on doubles by Kyler Thiessen and Kingston Arnold.

Slow-pitch softball teams break streaks

All three Canadian County slow-pitch softball teams ended losing streaks last week as Okarche High School defeated Class A’s 10th-ranked Covington-Douglas 5-4.

Okarche moved to 8-5 on the season and snapped a four-game slide that included losses to Hinton (5-0), Shattuck (14-0) and Apache (16-0) in the Highway 152 Classic.

In that classic, the Warriors got two hits from Chesney Black and one each from Kayla Kremeier, Katie Parham, Callie Cramer, Belle Beam and Harper White.

Redlands linksters retain OCAC title

The team and individual titles from the Women’s Oklahoma Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship will remain with Redlands Community College’s golf team for a fourth straight season.

Playing at Firelake Golf Course in Shawnee, Redlands shot a 36-hole total of 601 that included a season-low effort of 296. The Cougars shot a 305 in the afternoon round to win by 48 shots over Murray State College (649). Seminole State College was third at 706.

State champs honored

Mayor Steve Jensen read a proclamation honoring the El Reno High School Lady Indians basketball team for back-to-back state championships.

The Lady Indians won the Class 5A championship this past season, making them El Reno’s first-ever back-to-back state title holders, the proclamation declared.
