The two-week break for the holidays proved to be just what El Reno High School’s girls basketball team needed to heal up and reset its direction for 2020.

“We had a couple of weeks off and it allowed us to touch back on what we did this summer,” said El Reno head coach Jennifer Douglas.

Touching back on summer meant using full-court pressure to speed up the game tempo and that’s just what El Reno did to Elgin last week, forcing the Owls into 33 turnovers en route to a 70-33 win.

Interstate 40 was closed for more than four hours Thursday night after an Oklahoma City police car struck a person who reportedly walked into traffic.

The unnamed person died at the scene of the incident, Oklahoma City police said.

Because the incident involved an Oklahoma City police officer, that department was taking the lead in the investigation, a department spokesman said.

The officer involved had not been identified as of press time.

So the holidays are over. The kids are back in school, YAY! The decorations are all put away neatly and organized. Yeah, right?

Before her days as a “football mom,” El Reno native Ilene Scott loved the sport and still watches it on television whenever she can – even at the age of 90.

“I’m a big football fan. All my kids played football at either Minco or Kingfisher and I was a football mom for sure. The boys played in high school and all the kids loved football,” said Scott.

So where does her football allegiance fall on Saturday afternoons?

“Oklahoma or Oklahoma State, either one. I had children and grandchildren that went to both schools and I can root for either school,” said Scott.
