Redlands pitcher shuts out Vikes

Josh Harrel picked up his second win in his last three starts over the weekend to help Redlands Community College’s baseball team avoid a sweep against Carl Albert State College.

The Vikings took the first three games of the series by scores of 14-7/13-3/6-4 but could not crack the scoreboard against Harrel in a 10-0 win by the Cougars.

Redlands improved to 10-27 on the season and 3-13 in Division 2 of the Oklahoma Collegiate Athletic Conference standings.

Prayer service for Kathleen Virginia Vogt was held Friday, April 16, with Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, April 17 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Rev. Cory Stanley officiating. Burial followed at Holy Trinity Cemetery under the direction of Huber-Benson Funeral Home.

Mike Whinery

Former El Reno resident Mike Whinery died April 6, and was buried near Geary.

Mike was born in El Reno on Dec. 9, 1955. He was a graduate of El Reno High School and an accomplished trapshooter, having won numerous titles including Oklahoma Junior Champion. An avid outdoorsman, Mike farmed west of Geary.

He is survived by his wife, Debbie; daughter, Jordan Tramell; stepsons, Nick Leonard and Brandon Leonard; grandson, Blake Tramell; and his parents, Frank and Theresa Whinery.
