A week’s layoff did little to hurt the momentum of El Reno High School’s girls soccer team as the Indians remain unbeaten in league play with an 8-0 road victory over Del City.

El Reno went into Monday’s match with fellow unbeaten Bishop McGuinness with a 4-0 mark in District 5A-1 play. The Indians are tied with the Irish for the league lead and are 8-3 on the season.

Indians back into playoff hunt

Once thought to be out of postseason contention, El Reno High School’s boys soccer team has played itself back into the talk for the 2021 Class 5A playoffs.

El Reno defeated Del City last week 2-1 for its first back-to back-victories of the season. The Indians improved to 4-8 overall but more importantly, 3-2 in the District 5A-1 standings.

The top four teams make the playoffs and El Reno is now tied with Guymon for fourth place. The Tigers play at El Reno Friday night.

Singles players drop GI matches

Much like the girls a few days earlier, El Reno High School’s two boys tennis players ran into stout competition at the 2021 Guthrie Invitational.

Xiven Wallin, playing No.1 singles, dropped straight set losses to Classen’s Mason Fair and Piedmont’s Bradley Carr. After a third-round bye, he fell 6-1/6-0 to Tulsa Edison’s Jackson Colliam in the 13th-place match.

U.S. 81 rivalry hits pothole

El Reno High School’s baseball team went on the road over the weekend to play Chickasha in the U.S. 81 rivalry series.

The Chicks came away with an 8-0 win over EHS as the Indians suffered their second shutout loss in the past three games to slip to 12-13 on the season.

The Indians were slated to play a doubleheader on Monday at the Hub Reed Complex against District 5A-1 leader Carl Albert. El Reno is tied for third in the district with Guthrie at 8-2.
