OKLAHOMA CITY – The chairs of the Oklahoma Senate and Oklahoma House of Representatives redistricting committees announced Oct. 10 as the deadline for public map submissions for congressional redistricting.

The public can submit congressional redistricting maps to the Senate via email at redistricting@oksenate.gov or to the House via email at redistrictingoklahoma2020@okhouse.gov.

Sheriff’s officials are exploring options to reduce population in the El Reno lock-up.

On Aug. 23, the inmate population stood at 284, a high for 2021, according to weekly jail reports.

That number includes 246 inmates housed at the Canadian County Jail and 38 prisoners staying in other county jails, Undersheriff Kevin Ward told county commissioners.

Kathleen Frances (Kappus) Leck was born Feb. 1, 1935, to Lawrence Kappus and Mildred (DeFrance) Meyer. She passed away Aug. 23, 2021, in El Reno at the age of 86.

Kathleen graduated from Hinton High School in 1952. She worked in El Reno as a telephone operator. She married Robert Leck on Feb. 7, 1953, in El Reno. They lived on the farm their whole life and ran a dairy. Kathleen later attended El Reno Junior College. She worked at Boles Chevrolet, Wheeler Chevrolet, OKC Stockyards, and in accounts payable at Geary Public Schools.
