Indians 16th in 5A field at Edmond Pre-State meet

While El Reno did not have a female runner at the recent Edmond Pre-State Cross Country Meet, the Indians did field a full team for the boys Class 5A Division.

The Indians placed 16th overall in the final team standings, completing the 5-kilometer (3.1-mile) course with a total time of one hour and 43.60 minutes. The top five runners, who set each school’s overall score, had an average time of 20:47.92 for El Reno.

Youth deer gun season welcomes young hunters on Oct. 15-17

The youth deer gun season is a perfect time to get youngsters into the woods for a great hunting experience when the weather is a bit warmer than during regular deer gun season.

The season’s young participants will also be the first hunters in Oklahoma to get the chance to harvest a deer with a firearm this fall. The season will be Oct. 15-17.

Baker: El Reno could be cut up under state’s new redistricting plan

El Reno could be cut up in redistricting with three state representative districts taking a piece of the community.

Rep. Rhonda Baker, R-Yukon, told the audience at last week’s Chamber of Commerce Legislative Breakfast, growth in Canadian County will cause her House District 60 seat to be less about El Reno and more about the Yukon and Piedmont areas. Baker said the Legislature is scheduled to meet in a special session in November to finalize the redistricting plan.

Homecoming parade rocked

El Reno High School held its annual all-sports homecoming parade through downtown El Reno last week.

The parade included floats from each of the four classes as well as parade entries from other sports teams, local businesses and past classes.

The EHS band performed and the Heritage Express Trolley carried passengers.
