The deadline to request absentee ballots by mail is approaching. Applications must be received by the Canadian County Election Board no later than 5 p.m. Monday, June 13.

County election board secretary Wanda Armold said absentee voting is available to all voters and can be submitted several ways.

“In Oklahoma, no excuse is needed to vote by absentee ballot, and it’s easy to apply,” Armold said.

“Voters can submit their application online, in-person, by fax, mail or even email.”

WASHINGTON – As gas prices in Oklahoma soared to record highs this week, Oklahoma’s junior senator joined fellow Republican senators challenging the White House for its response to the energy crisis.

Average prices jumped above $4 for the first time in this energy-rich state. Oklahoma was one of only three states that managed to stay below $4 until last week.   

Many factors have led to these skyrocketing prices, and Republican senators demand a change to be made in order to pull the country out of this crisis.

Canadian County singers can belt one out for a cause on Saturday, June 4 as the first-ever Karaoke for CASA event is held.

The event will be on the front lawn of Wildhorse Park in Mustang. It runs from 6 to 10 p.m. and will feature karaoke for anyone willing to get up and sing.

Stone Cloud Brewery will be on hand offering handcrafted beer, along with a Mexican food truck. Proceeds from the brewery and karaoke will help give children in foster care more support. Raffle prizes will also be offered during the evening.

At a Canadian County Republican Party’s special election forum in Yukon, four candidates vying for the District 1 and 3 county commissioners races met at the House of Restoration Church to discuss their campaigns.

Both races will be decided in a June 28 primary.

El Reno Public Schools completed the first week of feeding kids during the summer.

Youth 18 and under can get a sack lunch Monday through Thursday through July.

A candidate forum is scheduled in El Reno for June 14.

The El Reno Chamber of Commerce will host a forum at Redlands Community College. The forum will begin at 6:30 p.m.

Those planning to attend are asked to bring written prepared questions for the candidates. The candidates attending will be announced closer to the event, chamber officials said.

Two California men who were stopped while traveling through Canadian County each face up to 10 years in prison and a $50,000 fine for allegedly conspiring to traffic in illegal drugs.

Assistant District Attorney Justin Kemp has alleged that Weiyang Huang, 39, and Qiaming Mei, 39, violated the Uniform Controlled Substances Act by “possessing marijuana seedlings/plants for the purposes of cultivating marijuana plants.”
