Meeting to discuss drilling inside city limits on Tuesday

Body

A community meeting to discuss oil and gas drilling inside the El Reno city limits is set for 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Public Safety Center on SW 27th Street.

Mayor Matt White said the meeting will offer information to residents who have expressed concerns about drilling operations near their homes or neighborhoods.

White said the city has no control over where drilling operations are set up. He said that falls to the state Corporation Commission. White said the city faces lawsuits if it attempts to stop a drilling operation.

White yet to declare run for District 3 commissioner seat

Body

Mayor Matt White didn’t announce his candidacy for the District 3 county commission seat at last week’s El Reno Now gathering. But he did say he is looking at possibly throwing his name into the mix.

The filing period opens April 13 and ends on Friday, April 15.

Current District 3 Commissioner Jack Stewart chose to seek a new Senate seat in Yukon, leaving the door open for a new face on the three-member commission.

Marc Hader, District 1 commissioner, has drawn an opponent in Tom Manskey.
