It’s the season of ticks, and while most Oklahomans know how to ward off the creepy crawlers, tick bites are a common occurrence that can cause serious health implications.

OKLAHOMA CITY –  Senate President Pro Tempore Greg Treat has announced his appointments for a tax reform working group to study proposals in relation to the ongoing special session.

“We’re committed to a serious, mature conversation about tax reform, conducted in a thoughtful way,” Treat said.

STILLWATER – The world’s fascination with honey bees is linked to a population decline during the past decade that threatens the production of fruit, nut, forage, vegetable and other crops that rely on pollination.

Epic Charter Schools has provided emails from co-founder Ben Harris requested by Oklahoma Watch in 2020 after settling a lawsuit.

Oklahoma Watch, represented by attorney Kathryn Gardner and the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press, filed the lawsuit in May 2021 alleging the virtual charter school effectively denied an open records request for the emails by charging illegal fees.

El Reno’s David Egan has been honored as the recipient of the Harold J. Wittrock Humanitarian Award by the Center of Family Love.

The announcement was made during the Ninth Annual Gift of Love Gala hosted by the CFL.

The colorful event, held at the Cowboy National Heritage Center in Oklahoma City, helped raise more than $1.8 million to support CFL operating expenses, as well as establish a fund to build an off-campus educational and training center.

El Reno Senior Citizens Center will host a day of health on June 27 when a mobile unit from the Northwest Central Oklahoma County Health Department sets up outside the center.

Senior Center Director Jill York said the Mobile Wellness Unit will be onsite at 317 S. Grand from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The services it will provide include COVID vaccines for both children and adults. Also available will be vaccines for flu, Tdap and tetanus.

Blood pressure checks, pregnancy testing and dental fluoride for children six months to 18 years will also be available.

Canadian County Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) chose a near-perfect night for some songs and suds.

Folks enjoyed a cool breeze as the sun set during Karaoke for CASA.

The event accomplished a dual mission of raising funds and awareness at Wild Horse Park in Mustang.

Tents and chairs were set up in front of a stage for a night of music, as participants took their turn at the microphone.

The monthly event is hosted by Mayor Matt White and outgoing School Superintendent Craig McVay. The breakfast includes a $10 donation with proceeds from this session going to El Reno Mobile Meals.

The event will begin at 7:30 a.m. inside the Public Safety Center off SW 27th Street.
