El Reno paid respects to those “who gave all” during the annual Memorial Day observance Monday.

Organized by VFW Post 382, the ceremony at the El Reno Cemetery featured moving remarks by an American military hero, Capt. Bob Ford.

A Vietnam helicopter pilot, Ford, now of Okeene, flew more than 1,000 combat missions during his year-long tour of duty in southeast Asia. Ford, then 23, served from July 1967 to July 1968. Missions took Ford to the DMZ, the jungles of Vietnam, Laos and North Vietnam.

Canadian County adds 11 polling places after rise in voter registration

Body

Canadian County has added 11 polling places for the upcoming primary election, after voter registration climbed to nearly 92,000.

After redistricting, Canadian County Election Board officials have had to increase the number of voting precincts due to changes in county, state and federal legislative maps – and population growth. Canadian County has increased from 48 precincts in 44 polling places to 60 precincts in 55 locations.

“We finally have the polling places in place,” said Canadian County Election Board Secretary Wanda Armold.

State gas prices push past $4 a gallon

Body

WASHINGTON – As gas prices in Oklahoma soared to record highs this week, Oklahoma’s junior senator joined fellow Republican senators challenging the White House for its response to the energy crisis.

Average prices jumped above $4 for the first time in this energy-rich state. Oklahoma was one of only three states that managed to stay below $4 until last week.

Many factors have led to these skyrocketing prices, and Republican senators demand a change to be made in order to pull the country out of this crisis.

Healing power through words

Body

Kay Holbrook never intended to write a book. But she did. And in the process, she’s felt a healing and maybe a closeness develop with people she has never met and may never know.

These are the people, adults as well as children, who, for whatever reason, feel at times in their life like they have been left out or overlooked.

She's hoping her book, “Chocolate Cake With Stinky Sardines” will help young girls see themselves as needed, wanted and loved.
