The Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes have been officially designated Purple Heart Tribes.
Ambassador Nancy Salsman for Military Order of the Purple Heart made the presentation to C&A during last week’s 34th Annual Indian Nation Powwow held at Concho. The event is also the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes of Oklahoma’s annual summer festival.
The Canadian County Continuous Improvement Committee is hosting a Back-to-School Supply Drive to benefit the schools of Canadian County.
Hannah Harris, an employee of the Canadian County Election Board and a member of the committee, said the effort is intended to collect donations such as shampoo, soap, socks and feminine products so the schools can give them out as needed during the year.
Donations are accepted at any Canadian County government office as well as the Dale Robertson Center in Yukon and the Mustang Community Center.
Four people died Tuesday afternoon in a small airplane crash near Sundance Airport in far east Canadian County. The crash happened near Sara Road and NW 150th.
About 1:30 p.m., Oklahoma City firefighters responded to a potential aircraft accident near the 13000 block of North Sara Road.
While en route, the crew reported seeing a plume of smoke rising from the area. Upon arrival, fire crews found a plane on fire in a wooded area just east of the runway. Firefighters extinguished the flames and discovered that all four people on board had perished.
