An historic partnership five years in the making will promote collaboration and healing between the citizens of the city and county of Broomfield, Colo., and the Cheyenne and Arapaho people. 

The agreement between Broomfield and the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes of Oklahoma, signed in late March, is said to represent a remarkable moment in diplomacy and cultural exchange. 

The signing ceremony was held in downtown Denver and included representatives from both communities. 

The 37th Annual Burger Day Festival, coordinated by the El Reno Main Street Program and the City of El Reno, will happen Saturday no matter what Mother Nature has in store.

“It will happen rain or shine,” said Main Street Director Heather Brothers.

Not to worry though, said Brothers, careful considerations are being made in case of severe weather threats.

Workers with Lingo Construction were busy putting final touches on The Filling Station before the ribbon-cutting and soft opening set for 10:30 a.m. Saturday.

The City of El Reno captured a grant for $1.2 million from the Oklahoma Route 66 Commission, using the funds to transform the former gas station at 120 S. Choctaw into a visitors center and gift shop.

State Sen. Lonnie Paxton, R-Tuttle, joked with the audience at last week’s El Reno Legislative Breakfast that when Gov. Kevin Stitt and Lt. Gov. Matt Pinnell are both out of state, he’s the next in line. Paxton, the Senate Pro Tem, becomes the acting Oklahoma governor in their absence. 

The breakfast was hosted by the El Reno Chamber of Commerce and held at Redlands Community College. 

Paxton said that in February when both Stitt and Pinnell were out of state, he took over. 

These two adult Canada geese keep a watch for any passing golfers or carts at Lake Hefner Golf Course as their babies head toward a pond for a swim last week during the NJCAA Central District tourney.

Canadian County commissioners are considering the adoption of county building codes. The proposal was discussed at the board’s weekly meeting, but the item was tabled after District 2 Commissioner Lacey Dawson questioned whether the move would be premature.

After receiving guidance from the county’s legal counsel, the first-year commissioner said adopting county building codes is not allowed by state law because Canadian County does not have county planning and zoning.

The Redlands Community College Fitness Center is promoting health to the wider El Reno community.

The center isn’t just for students, it’s an affordable wellness facility open to the public and designed to help anyone take control of their health.

For $75 per three-month period, community members can access the college’s Wellness Center, a space outfitted with state-of-the-art equipment and a wide range of free weights.

Redlands students receive free access to the facility as part of their enrollment.
