Sexual Assault Victims Right Act becomes law

OKLAHOMA CITY – Legislation that requires sexual assault survivors receive information on trauma care sooner has been signed into law. 

The Sexual Assault Victims Right to Information Act (House Bill 2546), authored by Rep. Cyndi Munson, D-OKC, and Sen. Kay Floyd, D-OKC, expands protections to victims of sexual assault regardless of participation in a criminal investigation of their assault. The act allows for an advocate to be made available during a sexual assault examination.

State Treasurer McDaniel will not seek out re-election

OKLAHOMA CITY - Oklahoma State Treasurer Randy McDaniel said he will not seek re-election next year but plans to continue serving as treasurer until his current term ends on Jan. 9, 2023.

“It has been an honor to serve Oklahoma as state treasurer and as a state representative,” McDaniel said.

Eichholz turns marathon experience into gold

Having ran three Boston Marathons and most recently a half-marathon in Tulsa, Shannon Eichholz knows how to run long distances and do them quickly.

The El Reno native put those experiences to good use over the weekend to rally for the gold medal in the Men’s Olympic-Distance Duathlon at the 2021 Route 66 Multisport Festival.

“Running is more natural for me and just coming off a half marathon (the Golden Driller) in April, I still had good conditioning to help me,” said Eichholz.

A steady, at times heavy rain moved the traditional Memorial Day ceremony under a pavilion at the El Reno Cemetery on Monday.

Fair events taking shape

A professional rodeo and a new barrel racing contest will highlight the Canadian County Free Fair that will unfold in August at a brand-spanking-new venue.

The 67th Annual Canadian County Free Fair will be staged Monday, Aug. 23 through Saturday, Aug. 28 at the new Canadian County Expo and Event Center.

Canadian County’s $15.2 million, multi-use fairgrounds complex nears completion on a 50-acre site at Jensen and Alfadale roads just south of Interstate 40.
