OKLAHOMA CITY – For the second time this season, El Reno High School’s boys basketball team needed extra time to settle the outcome of a top 10 matchup with Bishop McGuinness.

And for a second time it was the home team that emerged with a loss.

El Reno went into McCarthy Gymnasium and outscored the Irish 12-7 in overtime for a 69-64 victory.

The win avenged an earlier double overtime home loss to McGuinness - the East’s third seed for the upcoming playoffs.

How does a university professor from South Carolina become infatuated with the history and romance of Route 66?

Apparently like a lot of people.

“I saw the movie Cars,” said Nolan Stolz, Associate Professor of Music at the University of South Carolina Upstate. The school is located in Spartanburg, S.C.

Stolz, who holds a doctorate in music, actually has a much deeper history with the Mother Road than the colorful movie that hit the silver screen in 2006.
