Inmate walks away from El Reno FCI minimum security camp

An inmate at the El Reno Federal Correctional Institution was being sought after he apparently walked away from the minimum security camp.

Prison officials said on Feb. 14, inmate Bryan Scott Miller was discovered missing from the camp adjacent to the FCI. It was about 9:30 p.m. when Miller was found to be missing.

Miller is a 36-year-old black male with black hair, brown eyes, 5-foot 1-inch tall and weighs approximately 165 pounds, officials reported.

Okarche speech wins in virtual events

Members of the Okarche High School Speech Team competed in two virtual tournaments during the month of February.

In a virtual tournament, students either submit video recordings of their performances for judging or compete via video-conferencing software.

In both competitions, OHS received the team sweepstakes trophy.

Homelessness task force meetings set

Body

A task force studying homelessness in Canadian County has invited the public to learn more about the problem and what may be done to address it.

The Canadian County Homeless Task Force is considering becoming an affiliate of the national movement Family Promise.

“We’ve been meeting for several months now trying to figure out how to deal with the issue,” said Canadian County Commissioner Jack Stewart, a task force member.

Archery Traditions of Oklahoma recently hosted the USA Archery Sanctioned Oklahoma JOAD Indoor Tournament Series.

Ethen Turner of El Reno Public Schools has been involved in JOAD for five years and participated in the tournament series. He placed first in the state in the male classic compound bowman division.

Lamplighters OHCE hold meeting

Lamplighters OHCE of Canadian County met recently at a local church. Joan Herr offered opening prayer and called the meeting to order. Carol Stine led the flag salute and gave a devotional titled “Abide in Christ.”

Maxine Little read minutes of the previous meeting, with Patricia Morrison giving the treasury report. It was noted that gift bags will be assembled at the group’s next meeting on March 9 for residents of a local care center.

Third-period run allows ER girls to hold off BM rally

OKLAHOMA CITY - While the rematch was closer than one might have expected, El Reno High School’s girls basketball team swept the season series from Bishop McGuinness behind a clutch third-period run.

El Reno, the No.2 seed on the West, improved to 17-4 on the season with a 58-48 non-conference win over the Irish. It was the Indians sixth win out of the past seven games.

The two schools could meet for a third time as Bishop McGuinness, the West’s 10th seed, will play in the upcoming Class 5A, Region 4 Championships at El Reno if both teams advance to the finals.

Local students named to UCO honor rolls

Body

The University of Central Oklahoma recently announced a list of students named to the university’s honor rolls.

For the fall 2021 semester, 1,523 students were named to the President’s Honor Roll, an honor achieved by those who recorded a straight-A or 4.0 GPA. In addition, 1,524 students were named to the Dean’s Honor Roll with a 3.5 GPA or better for the semester and no grade lower than a B.
