El Reno High School’s volleyball team brought home hardware from the recent Noble Invitational, winning the Silver Bracket with a 3-2 overall record. The Indians improved to 8-10 on the season.

El Reno lost to Yukon and Piedmont, ranked fourth in Class 5A, but defeated Amber-Pocasset, Seminole and Noble.

For the five matches, El Reno got 15 kills from Trinity Black, followed by Emma Patswald with 13. Qyra Jones led those in single digits with nine, while Pauline Black-Harmon had four kills.

Jewell Graham, Savannah Robinson and Bailey Denwalt added two kills each.

El Reno’s seventh and eighth grade football teams split with Carl Albert in Suburban Conference play.

For the first time in recent years, El Reno High School’s cross country team fielded teams in both the girls and boys divisions at the 2022 Riverside Invitational in Anadarko.

Running a 3,200-meter course, Cielo Caso Estrada led the girls team with a time of 19 minutes and 16.73 seconds to take 35th overall. Maria Moreno (22:30) crossed in 45th, followed by teammate Jasmin Caso (24:21) in 50th place. Emma Pawnee (25:56) rounded out the El Reno effort in 54th.

Kaydence Thunderbull also ran for El Reno.

Both Redlands Community College cross country teams placed at the 2022 Aggie Duels hosted by Cameron University.

The women’s team, running a 5,000-meter course, took seventh with 198 points and an overall time of one hour and 57.55 seconds. The squad ran an average time of 23:34.89.

Alicen Williams led the squad with a time of 23 minutes flat to place 48th.

Teammate Alyssa Baldwin (23:09) crossed in 50th place, followed by Erica Duncan (23:10) two spots back.

Kimberly Birth (24:01) took 58th, followed by Karlee Trammell (24:34) in 60th.

Susan Hicks said a vaccine clinic for cats and dogs will be held at the Northwest Community Center on Sept. 24. The event will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Oklahoma Humane Society is sponsoring the clinic.

Hicks said it’s an effort to help the community care for animals.

Dogs should be on leashes and cats should be in carriers, Hicks said. There will be a nominal charge for the vaccines, she said.

In its first outing of the 2022 fall season, Redlands Community College’s golf team placed fourth at the Southwestern Christian University Invitational, hosted at Lake Hefner Golf Club.

Redlands carded a 36-hole total of 604, finishing behind Oklahoma City University (556) and the Stars junior varsity team (569). Kansas-based Bethany College (598) was third.

Riding a wave of 30 hits from its top six batters, Union City High School’s fast pitch softball team snapped a two-game losing streak by ripping off a string of four straight victories.

The Tigers improved to 18-13 on the season with wins over Alex (13-10), Central High (8-6), Burns Flat-Dill City (12-0) and cross-county rival Okarche, 11-4.

Union City was 37-of-140 (.330) from the plate over the four-game slate, led by Mackinzie DeLong (.563) with nine hits, five of those doubles. The senior scored six times and drove in five more runs.
