City to clean streets with new grant-funded sweeper

Body

The city of El Reno was awarded a grant for more than $640,000 and promptly bought a new street sweeper and a couple of dump trucks.

The funds came from an Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality program that was created from the Volkswagen Clean Diesel Settlement.

The funding will support the replacement of aging municipal fleet vehicles with newer, cleaner and more efficient models.

The new street sweeper replaces a 1999 model. It was purchased for $369,295, while the two medium-duty dump trucks cost more than $135,000 each.

The creation is a tribute to RCC’s 11 competitive teams and honors the school’s contributions to education, community and the path ahead.

OKC club brings R/C boat racing to Lake El Reno

While scaled down dramatically from their life-sized crafts, size is about the only real difference between remote-controlled racing and the competitions found on either the drag boat or offshore powerboat circuits.

More than 100 R/C boat racers descended on Lake El Reno last week for the inaugural Oklahoma Shootout. They came from six different states, the furthest California, driving campers and pulling trailers filled with boats, supplies and replacement parts.
