Piedmont man arrested on child pornography charges

Canadian County sheriff’s deputies, acting on information from the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, arrested a Piedmont man on complaints of possession of child pornography.

Jack Reed, 39, was arrested Aug. 21.

Deputies got the information alleging Reed had downloaded child porn from the OSBI Internet Crimes Against Children Unit.

El Reno student tests positive for COVID-19

El Reno Public Schools put out a statement Monday afternoon that a student, the first since classes resumed Aug. 20, has tested positive for COVID-19.

The unnamed student, according to the release, was believed to have accessed El Reno High School, Etta Dale Junior High's gymnasium and the Canadian Valley Technology Center.

El Reno wins OT thriller over Cache, 42-35

Body

What looked to be a blowout at the start of the third period turned out to be an overtime thriller as El Reno High School’s football team defeated Class 4A's Cache 42-35 to kick off the 2020 season.

El Reno junior Kade Mayo picked off a pass from Bulldogs’ quarterback Hunter Glenn on Cache's first play of overtime to seal the win for the Indians.

Marie Hirst said members of Historic Fort Reno Inc. are being locked out of the Fort Reno Visitors Center and Museum, making it impossible to raise funds to help support the efforts of the organization.

Hirst is president of the organization, she’s also Canadian County Court Clerk. Last week she turned to social media to call for those interested in the history of Fort Reno to gather to discuss concerns, especially related to the USDA tearing down structures at the historic fort.

Race set for Ward 1 seat

Jacqueline Stevenson-Smith and Steve Jensen will face off Nov. 3 for the Ward 1 El Reno City Council seat.

Election Board Secretary Wanda Armold said those two were the only ones to file for the seat during the filing period that ran from Monday through Wednesday.

Stevenson-Smith, 42, was appointed in July to fill out the term of J.T. Chronister. Chronister missed too many meetings and was automatically removed from the council.

County mask rule discussed

Body

County officials will decide whether to require masks to be worn by employees and visitors to their respective offices.

County commissioners left in place the mask policy that has been in place at Canadian County offices since earlier this year. The decision not to make a change came during Monday’s meeting, but followed a lengthy discussion on the policies.
