OKLAHOMA CITY — Oklahoma officials remained optimistic about the state’s potential to become a leader in the hydrogen industry despite a revelation that President Joe Biden had rejected a regional bid to become a hydrogen hub.
Biden instead selected seven hubs in 16 states to launch the nation’s $7 billion hydrogen hub program created under Congress’ Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.

A longtime former mayor and successful businessman, an award-winning broadcast journalist and a renowned architect are this year’s recipients of the El Reno High School Distinguished Alumni Award.
Matt White, Tess Maune Mattioda and Roland Lemke will be honored for their life achievements at the annual Distinguished Alumni Banquet set for 6:30 p.m. Nov. 7 at the Canadian Valley Technology Center.

With a pledge to “clean up” El Reno, the city council last week voted to seek condemnation through court action of one property.
The council also gave two other owners a bit more time to get their respective properties in order. A house owned by Ed Graham at 716 S. Rock Island was condemned by the council in a unanimous 5-0 vote. An attorney for Graham said the house had been vacant for 20 years, but Graham had only owned it for less than two years.
A $3.6 million remodeling project is under way at the future site of the Canadian County Health Department.
The inside of a 33,000-square-foot-building at 6100 E. Highway 66 is being renovated for the new county health clinic and offices.
In June 2022, commissioners spent $6 million in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) federal stimulus funds to acquire the property near SH-66 and Evans Road.
A contractor has been hired to replace the parking lot and sidewalks for the Canadian County Assessor’s Office.
Canadian County commissioners awarded a $213,197 low bid contract for a parking lot replacement project at North Choctaw and Highway 81.
Atlas Paving Co.’s price is $201,997 to install a new asphalt surface on the parking lot. Meanwhile, King Electric will be paid $11,200 to provide basic electricity to charge assessor vehicles.
Frontier Chevrolet General Manager Shane Tuck last week presented Canadian County Sheriff Chris West and a few of his deputies with a check for $5,000 as part of the Chevy First Responder Appreciation program.
The program is a partnership allowing Chevrolet to support local first responders who serve and protect communities around the nation.
