Newly-elected El Reno Mayor Steve Jensen mugs for the camera with Oklahoma City Thunder mascot Rumble the Bison during the recent El Reno Christmas Parade and Tree Lighting.

Jensen joked with the mascot, saying he would give him the key to the city, but all the locks may have been changed.

Jackets sting El Reno title hopes at Panthers Classic

Choctaw used a 21-8 scoring edge in the second period to rally past El Reno High School’s girls basketball team for a 52-45 win in the title game of the 50th Annual Harrah Panthers Classic.

It was the first loss of the season for El Reno, which dropped to 5-1, after defeating Bishop McGuinness (56-28) and Star Spencer (81-31) to reach the championship game.

El Reno led the Yellowjackets 20-13 after one period, but was outscored 39-25 over the final three periods by the Class 6A school.

Late 3-pointer by CHS steals win from Indians grasp 56-55

Guard Carson Elliott hit a 3-pointer with just over two seconds left to catapult Choctaw past El Reno High School’s boys basketball team 56-55 in the championship game of the 50th Annual Harrah Panthers Classic.

El Reno suffered its first loss of the season to slip to 5-1 overall after beating the Yellowjackets junior varsity team (67-40) and Classen SAS (47-45) to reach the title shot.

The Indians trailed in the fourth period before tying the score at 53-all on a free throw each from Alex Elizondo and Jacob Robertson.
