Harris fuels three separate breaks as CHS girls win by 44 over Geary

CALUMET – Senior Allie Harris sparked three multi-point breakaways as Calumet High School’s girls basketball team greeted the 2023 portion of its schedule with a 68-24 win over Geary.

The win was the fourth in a row for the Chieftains, who improved to 8-4 on the season and 4-1 in the Washita Valley Conference standings.

Geary led the contest 10-6 before Harris sparked the first 11-0 break with two free throws at the 2:18 mark of the first period.

Patswald signs with RCC

Body

El Reno senior Emma Patswald (center with vest) recently signed an NJCAA letter of intent with Redlands Community College for shooting sports under head coach Shelby Skaggs.

Patswald has been a member of the El Reno shooting sports program for six years and the Canadian County 4-H Shotgun Team for five years.

Birth - Jackson Lee Hockersmith

Body

BOY – Taylor and Kelsey Hockersmith of El Reno are parents of a boy, Jackson Lee Hockersmith, born Oct. 18 at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City.

He weighed 7 pounds, 15 ounces and measured 21 inches in length.

Jackson has a brother, Grayson Reed.

Maternal grandparents are Theresa Hall of Yukon and Bill Sanders of Mustang.

Paternal grandparents are Amber and David Hockersmith and Brad and Stephanie Baker, all of El Reno.

No. 1 Indians win 11 straight matches to secure 57-12 decision over Eagles

After losing the opening weight, El Reno High School’s wrestling team reeled off 11 straight wins to help spark a 57-12 victory over Class 4A’s 11th-ranked Weatherford.

The Indians, the top-ranked team in Class 5A, improved to 4-1 on the season. The Eagles were the fourth top 15 opponent that El Reno has faced this season, posting a 3-1 record.

Saxophonist Winn to perform at ER’s First Assembly of God

Whether on the streets of America or abroad, from prisons to parks, churches of all sizes and the corporate stage, singer, songwriter and saxophonist Greg Winn has been Making Music Matter for more than 40 years.

He has devoted his life to music ministry and is described as one of the most versatile music ministers on the road today.

Winn will be in concert on Sunday, Jan. 8 beginning at 10:30 a.m. at First Assembly of God, 1701 S. Jensen Ave.

The public is invited, and child care will be provided through age 4.

Okarche sweeps Cordell on the road

Okarche High School's boys basketball team tuned up for this weekend’s Three Rivers Conference Championship run with an 81-27 road win over Cordell.

The Warriors, ranked sixth in Class A, improved to 11-1 on the season with their 11th straight win.

Okarche’s offense exploded on the Blue Devils for 32 points in the first period before adding a pair of 20-point efforts over the next two periods for the 54-point blowout.

Honors, festivals highlight spring, summer

As 2022 continued to roll on, some new leaders were elected and top honors were presented to some top students. El Reno would continue to celebrate with annual festivals and events dedicated to fried onion hamburgers, classic cars and fast boats.
