OKARCHE - Callie Cramer and Lawson Geheb hit home runs in back-to-back innings as Okarche High School’s fast-pitch softball team run-ruled Class A’s 15th-ranked Union City 8-0.
The win was the third shutout in a row for unranked Okarche after beating Calumet (13-0) and Dover (8-0) to move to 12-8 on the season.
In the win over CHS, Geheb hit a homer, tossed a perfect game and struck out nine batters to reach 300 for her career.
Union City High School’s baseball team won the Mulhall-Orlando Invitational with a 9-1 decision over Class 2A’s eighth-ranked Oklahoma Christian Academy.
The Tigers, ranked ninth in Class A, moved to 13-8 on the fall after beating Dover (No.5/B) 4-3 and Santa Fe South (No.14/2A) 9-2. In the win over Dover, Dawson Davidson hit a walk-off double to score two runs.
The team hit .275 for the tourney, going 19-of-94 with two doubles each from Davidson and Mason Williams. Carson Biffle had a team-leading four base hits, followed by Williams and Davidson with three each.
Freshman Andres Mandujano set a new school record as Redlands Community College men’s cross country team took seventh place at the Aggie Duels, hosted by Cameron University.
Mandujano ran the 8,000-meter (4.97-mile) course in 27 minutes and .08 seconds to place 24th overall. He ran on a 5:27-mile pace.
Mitchel Foster (31:31) was second to cross the finish line for the Cougars in 48th.
Iker Espinoza (32:59) was 54th, followed by Gilberto Rodriguez (33:46) in 55th place and Bryan Doshier (35:19) a spot back. Nicholas Sanders (35:20) took 57th.
PIEDMONT – El Reno High School’s football team imploded in the third period of its top 10 battle with Piedmont, allowing four touchdowns in the frame en route to a 34-0 shutout.
The loss dropped El Reno, ranked No.10 in Class 5A in the Associated Press Oklahoma Prep Football Poll, to 1-1 on the season. Piedmont, ranked fifth in Class 6A-II, moved to 2-0.
Piedmont led 7-0 at the half before scoring on three rushing touchdowns in the third period and a 57-yard punt return. The Wildcats offense rolled up 362 rushing yards on El Reno’s defense and four rushing touchdowns.
Jumping back into league play, El Reno High School’s fast-pitch softball team was held to six hits in a 9-3 road loss to Carl Albert.
The loss dropped El Reno to 3-8 on the season and 0-2 in the District 5A-2 standings for fifth place.
El Reno’s six-hit effort was led by a double from Taylor Acosta. Izzy Birdsong, Maddy Brinkamn, Zoey Pawnee, Kyla Killingsworth and Brailynn Vickery added a single each.
Amalie Kalcevova took the loss from the circle, allowing nine runs off seven hits and two walks. She struck out two batters over six innings.
Losing to archrival Carl Albert in the first round of Gold Bracket play, El Reno High School’s volleyball team exited the Noble Invitational with a 2-2 record.
El Reno, ranked 10th in Class 5A, dropped to 12-9 on the year with the loss to the eighth-ranked Titans. The Indians were second in pool play with a 2-1 mark after straight game wins over Elgin and Del City. The host team defeated EHS 2-0.
CHICKASHA – When he took over the reins of direct play-calling in a dual role as offensive coordinator, El Reno High School head football coach Russell Cook promised a more wide-open attack in 2025.
He delivered in his first game out.
El Reno rolled up 457 yards in total offense as the Indians opened up the season with a 42-27 win over Chickasha for its third straight win in the U.S. 81 Battle.
“I told you it would look different,” said Cook.
Riding a strong serving effort, El Reno High School’s volleyball team picked up a 3-0 win over Chickasha in the hard-court version of the U.S. 81 Battle to reach the 10-win mark for a second straight season.
El Reno, now 10-7 on the season, jumped up four spots in the latest Class 5A poll to No.10 with the 25-7/25-13/25-16 win.
The Indians served at 95.8 percent and were 20 percentage points higher than Chickasha. The Indians held the edge in ace serves by a 10-3 margin, led by Radley Miller with four.
Redlands Community College’s cross country team kicked off the 2025 season at the Oklahoma State University Cowboys Preview in Stillwater.
The Cougars had seven runners in the men’s 5,000-meter race, closing in fourth place with 110 points behind Oklahoma State (29), Oklahoma (32) and Tulsa (72).
Redlands had an overall time of 1 hour and 38.47 minutes, which averaged out to 19.45 minutes per entry.
Andres Mandujano led the Cougars in 27th place with an average pace of 5:37.30 leading to his overall time of 17:28.
Though losing four of five games in the last 10 days due to weather, El Reno High School’s fast-pitch softball team was able to squeeze in a 7-1 road win over the Oklahoma City Broncos.
El Reno moved to 3-7 on the season after breaking a 1-all tie with two runs in the fourth, sixth and seventh innings.
The seven runs came off a 10-hit effort by the Indians, led by a double each from Brailynn Vickery, Addilinn Johnson and Amalie Kalcevova. Johnson added a triple and led all El Reno batters with three base hits.
