Cougars squads place in Aggie Duels at Cameron

Both Redlands Community College cross country teams placed at the 2022 Aggie Duels hosted by Cameron University.

The women’s team, running a 5,000-meter course, took seventh with 198 points and an overall time of one hour and 57.55 seconds. The squad ran an average time of 23:34.89.

Alicen Williams led the squad with a time of 23 minutes flat to place 48th.

Teammate Alyssa Baldwin (23:09) crossed in 50th place, followed by Erica Duncan (23:10) two spots back.

Kimberly Birth (24:01) took 58th, followed by Karlee Trammell (24:34) in 60th.

Redlands linksters tee up fall tournament slate in fourth at SCU Invitational

In its first outing of the 2022 fall season, Redlands Community College’s golf team placed fourth at the Southwestern Christian University Invitational, hosted at Lake Hefner Golf Club.

Redlands carded a 36-hole total of 604, finishing behind Oklahoma City University (556) and the Stars junior varsity team (569). Kansas-based Bethany College (598) was third.

Tigers scratch out four-game win streak, Calumet falls

Riding a wave of 30 hits from its top six batters, Union City High School’s fast pitch softball team snapped a two-game losing streak by ripping off a string of four straight victories.

The Tigers improved to 18-13 on the season with wins over Alex (13-10), Central High (8-6), Burns Flat-Dill City (12-0) and cross-county rival Okarche, 11-4.

Union City was 37-of-140 (.330) from the plate over the four-game slate, led by Mackinzie DeLong (.563) with nine hits, five of those doubles. The senior scored six times and drove in five more runs.

State-ranked Chieftains pick up three tough wins, Union City on the prowl

Playing a fall schedule chock-full of ranked squads, Calumet High School’s baseball team posted a 3-2 record over a five-game slate ahead of this weekend’s Hammon Tourney.

All five games were in the Elk City Invitational and were against ranked foes as the Chieftains have faced 10 opponents in 19 games that appear in one of the state’s two polls.

Calumet, ranked third in Class B, took a 16-3 record into weekend play after defeating Sterling (12th/A) 11-8, Drummond (18th/A) 9-3 and Vici (16th/A) 11-3.

El Reno struggles to put close games in win column

While staying close in the majority of ball games, El Reno High School’s fast-pitch softball team is struggling to find its way back into the win column on a consistent basis.

El Reno went 1-4 over the weekend in the Bixby Invitational, defeating the host school 7-6 as Maddie Moss singled and scored the winning run behind two errors by the Spartans.

The losses were to Perry (10-7), Sand Springs (4-2), Tulsa Union (8-7) and Skiatook (5-2).

El Reno High School’s volleyball team went into the Noble Invitational looking to rebound from 3-1 losses to Duncan, ranked 13th in Class 5A, and unranked Chickasha.

The close losses to the Chicks were by scores of 24-26/19-25/25-19/22-25.

Trinity Black led the team in kills for the two matches with 12, followed by Savannah Robinson with 11.

Jewell Graham led those in single digits with seven kills, while Emma Patswald and Bri Barksdale added five each and Pauline Black-Harmon with four kills.

Eagles claw win away from El Reno's grasp in final minute

WEATHERFORD – It's been said lightning doesn't strike the same place twice, which is a hard theory to sell El Reno High School's football team.

For the second time in three weeks the Indians have had a win snatched from their grasp in the final minute, this time by Weatherford, which scored a touchdown with 22 seconds to play to steal a 20-19 victory.

The loss closed out non-district play for El Reno with an 0-3 record, while the Eagles improved to 1-1.

El Reno High School's football team was scheduled to travel down Interstate 40 Friday night to play Weatherford to wrap up the non-district portion of its 2022 schedule.

El Reno is 0-2 on the year following a 42-8 loss at Piedmont.
