ER Wranglers kick off three-date rodeo run

Body

The El Reno Wranglers kicked off the first of three rodeos last week all under the title Stars, Stripes and Spurs.

Julie Huber, president of the El Reno Wranglers, said another one-night event will be held Aug. 29 and a third on Sept. 19.

The three-date plan, each having saddle bronc, barrel racing and bull-riding payouts, breaks away from the club’s traditional two-night rodeo.

Davis: Indians made progress over 16-game summer slate even through transition phase

Body

Given the small amount of time Josh Davis had with players before hitting the court for summer action, El Reno High School’s new head boys basketball coach was pleased with the effort on the hardwood.

“We did a three-day training camp and used it for us to have a little structure and get organized going into summer league. Considering the small amount of time we had, I thought they did a really good job of picking up on stuff,” said Davis.

Crimson Creek steps up game with new rides

Body

One of just a few 18-hole layouts within 30 minutes of Oklahoma City, Crimson Creek Golf Course general manager Kevin Armold knows golfers are looking for a good experience. Good price, good service and a good comfortable ride.

Armold has the first two under control as Crimson Creek averages more than 18,000 rounds per year between members and daily-pay customers. Now his staff has the third element with a new fleet of Yamaha golf carts.

Indians on the road again

Body

Last month, El Reno High School girls basketball entered its second year of a rebuilding mode.

Good thing is head coach Jennifer Douglas has a road map to get her program back to the state tournament and beyond.

A path she has traveled along to the program’s first-ever back-to-back Class 5A state championships – just one year removed.

Ready to shift gears

Body

Though it was a small body of work to analyze, El Reno High School fast-pitch softball coach Bri Michalicka liked what she saw from her team in summer action.

El Reno played six road games between its varsity and junior varsity squads, two of those in Minco and four games in the summer league in Choctaw. The team posted a 4-1-1 record with the tie being a 2-all stalemate with Choctaw’s JV – a Class 6A program.

The Indians split with Minco, winning 9-5 and losing 6-2 to the Bulldogs. The other victories were over Tecumseh (12-7), Elk City (11-7) and Bristow (4-1).

El Reno grads display versatility at All-State

Body

Just like they had all season long, El Reno High School graduates Lily Hayes and Grisell Guzman showed their versatility and skill sets in the 2026 Oklahoma Soccer Coaches Association’s Class 5A All-State Game.

“There was a little bit of uncertainty coming into the season as to how we would do, but both Lily and Grisell performed exactly the way that I knew that they would.

“Grisell was a unanimous All-State pick at midfielder and I knew that Lily belonged there even though she played a different position for us.

All-State efforts show ER boys soccer headed upward

Body

Having three players named to the Class 5A West roster for the Oklahoma Soccer Coaches Association’s All-State Game, then having the trio turn in standout performances, is a telltale sign the tide is changing for El Reno High School’s boys soccer program.

“We’ve had pretty good back-to-back years and we’re going to have a good team next year. Obviously you have to refill the senior spots from those that made All-State, but we got a lot of return in production coming back.

“I think things are starting to change,” said head coach Joe Patton.
