Castro resigns as Yukon city manager after eight months

Body

Yukon City Manager Mike Castro has resigned after eight months in the top municipal administrative position.

Castro informed Yukon City Council members of his decision over the weekend and city employees learned about it Monday morning.

“Mike stepped into this role during a time of critical transition,” Mayor Brian Pillmore said Monday morning.

Stitt appoints Redlands grad to college’s Board of Regents

Body

Gov. Kevin Stitt appointed Redlands Community College alumnus Jason Murray to a seven-year term on the college’s Board of Regents, succeeding retired educator Dr. Juanita Krittenbrink.

Murray graduated with an associate degree in animal science from Redlands in 2017 and was a member of the college’s Livestock Judging Team.

“Redlands provided me with an exceptional foundation that has shaped both my education and career path,” Murray said.

Sheriff meets Trump in Oval Office

Canadian County Sheriff Chris West traveled to the nation’s capital recently to meet President Donald Trump.

“I thanked the president for everything he’s doing to protect America,” said West.

“It was very humbling to not only represent law enforcement in Oklahoma, but to be there on behalf of sheriffs across the country.”

West is the first vice president of the National Sheriffs Association (NSA) and will become its 85th president this summer. The organization represents the country’s 3,083 sheriffs.

New system to allow online citizen reports over rural area issues

Canadian County citizens will soon be able to make online reports about damaged culverts, potholes, overgrown weeds, illegal dumping and other issues that occur in unincorporated areas.

Commissioners voted 3-0 to implement REPORT IT, a non-emergency online reporting system.

The annual cost will be $519 to cover licenses and a dedicated email address, according to District 2 Commissioner Lacey Dawson. The first-year county commissioner spearheaded the proposal, which was endorsed by District 1 Commissioner Tom Manske and District 3 Commissioner Tracey Rider.
