A longtime Canadian County judge’s bailiff is being recognized for her outstanding career by having a conference room named in her honor inside the county courthouse.
Tammy Perando officially retired Jan. 31 after 27 years as a bailiff at the Canadian County Courthouse.
County commissioners have approved a proclamation naming the “Tammy Perando Conference Room B” in the county’s judicial building, 301 N. Choctaw.
The Canadian County Sheriff’s Office plans to add several more counties that will accept county inmates.
An agreement with Logan County was formally approved Jan. 18 to house county inmates at a rate of $41 per inmate per day.
For several years, Canadian County has signed contracts with Dewey, Grant, Ellis and Washita counties to transport and house its inmates when bed space is full inside the county jail.
Other jail housing contracts – with Grady and Noble counties – will be considered by county commissioners.
The Oklahoma CareerTech Testing Center, a division of the Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education, is expanding a partnership with the Oklahoma Department of Public Safety to offer written tests for commercial driver’s licenses.
The two agencies began a partnership in 2021 to offer Class D written driver’s license and motorcycle license tests.
OKLAHOMA CITY – Rep. Logan Phillips, R-Mounds, has filed legislation for the upcoming session that would establish the Southeast Asia Economic Trade Office.
The office would be housed in Taiwan to advance Oklahoma’s interests in the country and region.
According to Phillips, this legislation is necessary to strengthen Oklahoma’s already strong relationship with Taiwan and open up the state to new economic investment opportunities.

When Kyle Dillingham and his band Horseshoe Road take the stage Saturday night at the Centre Theatre, there will be several broken violins on stage with them.
The broken violins aren’t props. They are part of the award-winning Dillingham’s show. More importantly, the broken instruments are there to help share a message. That message is “We’re all broken, but through the Grace of God we can still make beautiful music with our lives.”
Dillingham and Horseshoe Road will perform at the theatre in downtown El Reno at 7:30 p.m.
Okarche Fire Chief Steve Liebl confirmed two people were injured Monday by an explosion at an oil site owned by Devon Energy.
The site is located west of Okarche at the corner of NW 248th Street and Brandley Road. Liebl said the first call on the explosion came into his department around 2 p.m.
“Once we got on-scene we were dealing with a grass fire, medical, as well as the vehicles that were on fire,” said Liebl.
Liebl said the vehicles involved were a pickup with attached trailer, a vacuum truck and the component vessel workers were doing maintenance on.
Nine entities have made formal requests totaling more than $23.7 million for Canadian County federal stimulus funds.
Canadian County has been awarded $28.8 million through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) of 2021. The county has received half ($14.4 million) of the funds.
ARPA is a $1.9 trillion federal stimulus package designed to speed up the country’s recovery from the economic and health effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
A fire that may have started in a backyard electrical box scorched the yards of two homes on Golf Course Drive Monday night.
Residents called 911 and said police and fire crews were on the scene very quickly.
A crew from OG&E arrived as well.
One of the homeowners, George Knott, used a garden hose to keep the flames from his house before firefighters arrived. Neighbors said flames were several feet high.
More than two dozen wreckers from across Oklahoma arrived in El Reno Wednesday afternoon in a tribute to the late Wayne Albrecht and his family, longtime owners of Cavin Wrecker Service. Albrecht died Jan. 21 at the age of 84.
His life was celebrated during a service at Bible Baptist Church on South Country Club Road.
Albrecht’s son, Bryan, currently serves as president of the Oklahoma Wreckers Owners Association.
