OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma Legislature reached its second major deadline, and several thousand bills have been either rejected in their houses of origin or were simply not heard.
Up to now, House bills have been considered only by representatives, while senators worked on Senate bills.
Now, House bills still alive are in Senate committees while Senate bills still viable are in House committees.

Crews have been installing fiber optic cable for about a month, but not until last week did El Reno actually celebrate the fact it’s getting into the Internet business.

This first wagon train passed through the Hinton and Hydro area on May 23, 1849, some 52 years before either town was established.
First Assembly of God Church in El Reno is conducting a shoe drive through May 18, to raise funds for its Women’s Missions Pledge.
First Assembly will earn funds based on the total weight of the pairs of gently worn, used and new shoes collected. Funds2Orgs will issue a check for the collected shoes.
Those dollars will benefit Backyard Orphans, a ministry to support foster families and assist in adoptions in Oklahoma.
They may not run up and down a court or catch the game-winning pass, but the nine students making up the El Reno High School Academic Team are athletes in their own right.
Just ask their coach, Patrick King.
“They are not your typical athletes but they are athletes in themselves. It takes a lot of brain power and a lot of work to do what they do. They put in the time outside of school and in school to have the ability to study and work at what they do,” said King.
Canadian County government leaders believe a new mass notification system will allow them to reach more of the public in times of emergency.
Regroup Mass Notification will provide improved service to the county, said Emergency Manager Josh Davis.
At Davis’ recommendation, commissioners approved an agreement with Regroup for the county’s mass notification system.
The system is used to provide a wide range of emergency alerts and other notifications such as county government office closings.
Canadian County is calling for a state audit in an effort to increase the amount the Oklahoma Department of Corrections pays to keep prisoners at the county jail before they are transferred to state custody.
DOC pays the sheriff’s office a daily rate of $27 to hold each convict who has been sentenced in Canadian County District Court and awaits transfer to prison.
