Wassana renews effort for return of Fort Reno grounds to C&A Tribes

Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes Gov. Reggie Wassana submitted testimony to the United States House Committee on Ways and Means Chairman Jason Smith, addressing the tribes ongoing efforts to reclaim Fort Reno. The testimony was submitted in March.

The C&A have long contended the Fort Reno lands were taken from them and have sought the return of the property.

Murder trial continued until April 26

Body

The first-degree murder case of an El Reno man charged with stabbing another in September is expected to be taken up this month.

Canadian County Special Judge David Halley on March 21 continued a previously scheduled March 20 preliminary hearing conference to April 26 in the case of Kyler Wayne Barber, 27.

Barber is accused of fatally stabbing 35-year-old Adam Lee Frogge of Oklahoma City in September 2022. He faces a single count of first-degree murder with deliberate intent and is being held without bond in the Canadian County Jail.

Flowers to lead Internet social media safety seminar at Children’s Justice Center

Thirty pounds of meth, cash seized in I-40 traffic stop

A deputy with the Canadian County Sheriff’s Office stopped a vehicle April 3 for a traffic violation along Interstate 40 eastbound near Radio Road.

The stop landed the driver and a passenger in jail.

Reports said the driver was stopped after the deputy observed an improper lane change.

During the stop, lawmen allegedly found some 30 pounds of methamphetamine and approximately $6,500.

Onion burger aroma lands El Reno on top 100 diners list

The aroma of El Reno’s onion burgers has reached far and wide as evidenced by a recent poll that shows El Reno among the top 100 cities in the United States when it comes to diners.

Released by RestaurantClicks.com, the poll has El Reno as the 50th top town for diners. Tulsa, at number 58, is the only other Oklahoma city included in the list.

Plant Days under way

El Reno’s Ross Seed Co. is holding its annual Plant Days sale this weekend.

The annual event offers thousands of blooming plants and hanging baskets along with all planting accessories.

The multi-day event kicked off Thursday and runs through Saturday.

Lucas to hold town hall meeting

Body

Congressman Frank Lucas (OK-03) will hold a town hall meeting on Wednesday at Redlands Community College.

The gathering is open to the public and will run from 10 to 11 a.m. in Room MM-125.

Lucas will be discussing recent work in Congress, taking questions about issues important to constituents of the 3rd Congressional District, and seeking input on legislation currently before Congress.
