Tonya Fisher was having trouble finding help to clean up a lot next to her father’s home on West Woodson.

The property is apparently owned by the Union Pacific Railroad and had become a popular place for people to discard limbs and unwanted household items, like appliances.

It was a big job and even with the help of people like Sarah and Kody LaFoe, Billy Fisher, Stacy Johnson and Willie Grant, more muscle would be needed to get the job done.

El Reno’s Carnegie Library kicked off its Camp Summer Reading Program last week with a party which included a petting zoo, sidewalk chalk, cornhole board and of course, books.

The goal is for every person in the program to read at least 10 hours this summer, with a community goal of 162,000 hours.

The program is open to all ages.

Canadian County sheriff’s deputies made a pair of significant drug busts in May, reports from the sheriff’s office said.

On May 13, deputies conducted two traffic stops on Interstate 40 in Canadian County. The stops resulted in seizing 40 pounds of marijuana and 19 pounds of fentanyl.

A public trust will be formed to oversee operations at Canadian County’s $20 million fairgrounds venue.

County commissioners voted 3-0 last week to create a Title 60 trust for the Canadian County Expo and Event Center.

The county-owned Expo, 3001 Jensen Road East, opened in July 2021 and is consistently busy with event bookings.

Commissioners are working with Expo Center Director Mandy Davis and District Attorney Tommy Humphries on creation of the new Title 60 trust.

The Center of Family Love will host its multimillion-dollar Gift of Love Gala, celebrating 43 years of creating new possibilities by empowering those with developmental disabilities that have been left behind for generations.

This year’s gala will be Saturday, June 15 at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum.

At the heart of this year’s event, the residents of the Center of Family Love (CFL) will take center stage, hosting the gala and showcasing their talents and abilities.

El Reno’s A Small Town Weekend is scheduled to roll into town this weekend with a tribute to a time when cars were classic and summer was magical.

The 26th Annual A Small Town Weekend will run Friday through Sunday and will have visitors as well as participants enjoying an array of events.

Most of the action takes place in Adams Park and Sunset Drive, also known to the rest of the world as Route 66.

It’s become one of the more popular lineup events for A Small Town Weekend and features side-by-side racing without even the hint or smell of gasoline and burning rubber.

No, it’s not an electric car show, but rather Hot Wheels Races, returning for yet another year.

“This really has become a popular part of the weekend events. It’s good public relations for the department and it gives the kids coming to A Small Town Weekend something to do,” said El Reno Fire Department Capt. David Baker.

Every driver at some point in their time behind the wheel of a car or truck faces that tough go or no-go situation. Sitting at a stoplight. No other car in sight and that wave overcomes your right leg and flows into your foot as the light turns from red to green.

It’s that question of burn those tires or pull away like on a Sunday drive.

While the latter of the two will save on gas, the first usually ends up in a ticket for reckless driving or a noise complaint.
